I tried looking at my rotifers under the microscope but they move about so fast. How can you tell the egg bearing females from the rest?

For air, I use an airstone that will fit right under the eggs. This last batch, every one of them hatched without any problems with fungus. Mine have been hatching at 7 days and this last batch started hatching just after I moved the tile to the nursery, 1/2 hour after the lights went out. You can usually tell by how the eggs look to tell if they're ready to hatch...their eyes are big and their bodies are silver colored. Good luck with your new batch!

Day 12 and we have our first stripe.

The eggs did not hatch last night but they all are alive and rotifers are going to have a full day to populate the larvae tank. I will probably add more today as well.

is there any chance anyone could post a picture of an adult female ready to spawn? congratulations everyone on their success, hope to have such success myself soon. Good luck this week with your hatchlings people, 12 day old is incredible you must be beside yourself after all you've accomplished these last two weeks FB, I can really say I've appreciated you sharing along with all the advice that's been given to this thread. This gives Fish On a whole new meaning so fish on and good luck.thx.

Only about 1/2 the eggs hatched last night. And of that only about 1/3 of them seemed to survive. Not really sure why.

A little disappointed with this. Don't really know what to do. There is 0 ammonia in the tank. Don't get it.

We shall see what happens tonight.

How are your other babies doing?

All 7 are alive and well.

All of last nights hatch are now dead. I don't think they had much of a yolk sac as they were all very skinny. I don't have much hope for the ones that may hatch tonight.

All but 10 eggs hatched last night and not one was alive when I turned the lights on at 7:45.

As for the others all 7 are doing well. Most have a second or partial second stripe.

My clowns layed eggs on Jan 18th and Feb 1st, which is exactly 14days. So I should be expecting a new batch on Friday. Argh! seems like such a long time to wait for more. Oh well I can now put all my attention to keeping my 7 others healthy and happy.

Might want to look at the bubble rate on the air stone. Mechanical damage is usually to blame in first 24 hour deaths.

That's probably what it was. The one's that were swimming were doing so in spinning or tumbling manner.

Anyway all 7 are doing good eating bbs. They have not touched any crushed flake or other food I have tried to feed them.

Day 16

All seven are growing and almost all of them have a partial if not full 2nd stripe. They are eating bbs well. I have to go buy some frozen food to see if they will attempt it.

I've been neglecting my main tank doing so much work on my other tanks my small cyano problem has become a big cyano problem. I am going to have to get that inline. I wonder if that may have had an impact on the last batch of eggs.

I started a bottle of Phyto with a culture disk it has gotten darker each day since I started it on Sunday. I put the whole disk in one bottle. How long or how dark should it get before I attempt to do a split.

Thanks

I lost one last night. He didn't look to well yesterday. Not really sure why. He didn't seem to be swimming very well yesterday. So I now have 6 left. No new eggs yet, probably today.

The remaining six are getting bigger every day and appear to be doing very well.

My phyto is pretty dark and I plan to split it today.

My clowns laid down a fairly large batch of eggs yesterday afternoon. I am going to start getting my rotifers going strong again, with a 90% water change and fresh phyto.

So far I have killed a batch of eggs with under bubbleing and I've killed a batch with over bubbleing. So hopefully I can nail this one down.

I have pictures of the spawn but I cannot post them now. Maybe later.

They are now 23 days old and doing well. I must have miscounted because I can now find 7 fish in the tank and I know the one that died is dead because I dispossed of him. I now have a power filter and a sponge filter on the tank.

Anyway to test it out I had put a heater in one of my rotifer cultures and no heater in the other. The one without the heater is doing amazing. The one with the heater was not doing so well. I strained what I could out of the bad one and feed my larvae tank. I cleaned all the gunk out and rinsed the tank. Added new salt water and took 25% of the rotifers out of the good one and put them in the new water. My good batch is about 5 gallons and my new one is about 2.5 gallons. I am slowly going to add water to each to get them to about 7 gallons.

The new eggs should be ready by the end of the weekend and I am looking forward to the next batch knowing I can use all my hard eanred knowledge.
