As of last night several of the GSM's were still alive. I looks like a couple had moved from the bottom into the water column. They still have either a yolk sac or a tummy full of rotifers. Hard to tell because of the green water. I think I can say for sure that the last batch of O's did not die because of the instant algae, but probably from what I can guess is toxins from cyano.

I did a 25 gallon water change on my reef tank last night and sucked up most of the cyano. I also changed out my old carbon with a fresh stuff. I did 30 gallon water change on my breeding system. Did some water tests my reef tank had a nitrates between 0-2. My system after the water change still had > 100. Interesting thing everytime I do a water change on my breeding system my B&W and Picasso pairs start going crazy showing lots breeding type behaviour. Hopefully they will lay some eggs soon. The B&W female has become very aggresive since last week when I cleaned her tank. That little B***H tried to bite me!

Occelaris Pair 3 eggs are still dark cannot see any eyes yet. There are probably only 20 eggs left. However the good thing is the male finally cleaned up the nest of all the white eggs (50%), looks like he might have remembered what to do.

As of last night no new eggs for GSM pair yet.

Last night when I got home the rest of the batch had hatched. I have about 50 gsm's swimming actively and plump with rotifers. I have 3 good healthy rotfier cultures going so they are being well fed.

Occelairs Pair 3 eggs hatched last night, all but one, or they were eatan. So far it has been 6 or 7 nights but I'm not positive as I did not see them lay them and they never looked orange when I saw them, so it could have even been 8 nights. The last eggs is silver and looks ready to hatch.

Currently there are no eggs in any tank!

Good luck with the GSM's FB. Its nice having 3 cultures isn't it? I have 3 that are going very strong and its nice. How often are you feeding your rots? I'm feeding twice a day. No eggs wow. Take a breather :) (I know you can't) Its a busy endeavor isn't it?

GSM batch 3 was just laid down today. It is double the size of the last which was double the size of the first.

Occelaris pair 3 female is getting huge and will probably lay another batch tonight or tomorrow.

Occelairs pair 1 female should lay tonight or tomorrow.

This looks like it could be a huge hit on my rots next week. I think I'm going to start a fourth culture.

Thanks

It is so nice having rots I can't even explain how good it feels. I am feeding my rots twice a day using the instant algae. You and I spoke to soon about the eggs. Looks like it could be a perfect storm for next weekend. LOL.

With family, work, and fish I don't get much of a breather. It's all good I am still enjoying it and that's whats important. However I see a fish room expansion in the not to distant future.

I don't think 4 cultures will do it FB. I'd either start bigger cultures or add at least a few more.

Good Idea!

Lost several GSM's last night. Have 7-10 left. So hard to count with green water. I did a water test and ammonia was 2ppm. My ammonia indicator had not moved and is probably due to be replaced. I added 1.5 ml of ammonia-lock (claims to neutralize up to 5ppm) and started a 60% water change. Hopefully with the ammonia-lock in the water any ph swings won't affect the toxicity of the ammonia if the binder is working.

One of the GSM's has started meta. Distinct curled tail. Hard to tell how old he is since the larvae hatched starting the 24th and finished the 27th. I would have to say he obviously the oldest so probably 4 days old....Is this normal.

I am going to get some BBS going today.

EDIT: No other eggs yet just the GSM's

4 days old is good. Mine usually meta at around day 12. Shoot just keeping them alive past day 5 was a challenge for me. :) Can't wait to see some pictures !

Really wow! I will take pics when there is something worth taking a pic of!

Only 4 left that I can see. 1 has a curled tail but I do not think it is the same one from yesterday. It appears he may have died during met. I don't have time for a water change this morning but I did add some ammonia lock.

It looks like my 5 gal bucket of rots with heater and sponge filter has crashed. I will see what I can recover from it tonight.

My gsm hatch from last week looks like it's in the same shape FB.
I can only see a few out of hundreds. I have 30 some that are 14 days old from the previous hatch. GSM's are a challenge.
Check out drs. foster and smith's diver's den, nice bonded pair of clowns, $6,000, lol.

I wonder what our problem is. Water quality or food. What are you feeding them.

From the looks of mine I would say that by day 4 they are no longer plump with rotifers, however they still have a silver stomach so they are eating them. To me this says they require more energy such as BBS. I am going to feed BBS to them tongiht.....if any are still alive.

I did see the pair of clowns for $6G's. That is crazy.

One lonely GSM larvae left. He does not have a curled tail. He looked very slugish and skinny this morning. I did a 90% water change and he perked right up. I add more BBS but he did not seem interested. There were still a ton of rotifers in the tank even with the 90% water change.

GSM batch III is progressing however there seemed to be a lot of unfertalized eggs. Many white eggs still exist and many eggs have been cleaned up by the male.

Occelaris Pair 1 laid down a medium size nest yesterday. So they should hatch the night of the 5th.

Occelairs Pair 3 still have not laid another nest although the female has been plump for several days and the cleaining continues.

I started another 5 gallon bucket rotifer culture this morning. No heater no sponge filter.

With all the tanks in my house the humidity and fish smell has become a problem. I have booked an EcoEnergy assessment for tomorrow morning. The government of Canada and Ontario are giving a $600.00 rebate for the installation of a Heat Recover Ventalator (HRV). However you need to get a EcoEnergy assessment done in order to qualify for the rebates. The assessment cost $300.00 for the first and $150.00 for the final inspection. The government is also giving a rebate of $150.00 for getting the inspection done. So all in all I am spending $300.00 to save $600.00. However there are a ton more rebates I can qualify for by improving the energy efficiency of my house. I have some window that could be replaced ($60.00 rebate per window). I also am planning on finishing a part of my basement. The insulation that I will be adding will also qualify me for more rebates.

Here is the link for those interested.

I feel your pain. With maroons you must keep the parents well fed prior to spawning. Also placing rots in the larvae tank the same night of the hatch. One trick I used is to place a blue moonlight over the larvae tank so they can eat as much as possible the first few days.

:eek2: Sounds like you have a busy week ahead of you. I think i would have been lost by now as to which pair is doing what, & when. Fish room expansion already :eek1:

GSM batch III seemed to thin out a lot last night (night 6) possible partial hatch. There eyes are silver but I just cannot tell when they are going to hatch. I guess I will pull them tonight.

Occelaris Pair 3 laid down batch II sometime today. Pretty large nest and I can see a couple of white eggs already.

Occelaris Pair 1's nest should be ready in two days.
