While we all have a favorite businesses, we need to be mindful of how others perceive our joy. We have a lot of great businesses in the area to choose from. We have JP, House of Fins in Greenwich, Exotic Fish & Coral in Milford, Fin & Feather in Groton (right near March’s meeting place), Conservation Aquarium in Cromwell, Fintastic in Rocky Hill, Aquatic Wildlife in Manchester, Puppy Center in West Hartford, Emmons in Simsbury and Aqua Dreams in Feeding Hills, Ma â€"œ just to name a few.

Almost every store in the area has my Business card. If they are having a special event (Grand Opening, Anniversary Sale, etc), they can get in touch with me and I will gladly promote the event. After all, that is part of my job as Director of Public Relations.

To be fair to all the stores, the constant posts “XXX just got in a huge load of corals” and PM’s “Blank store is getting a huge shipment of corals tonight, pass it on” need to stop. These stores have web sites â€"œ they can post everything from their hours, to when they are getting shipments to pictures of what they have.

By all means, be excited about what is going on. When you find that favorite coral, take it home, put in your tank, take some pictures and show it off. Be excited that you are part of a great club that has plans to do more this year than almost any year in the past. We have booked speakers for March, April and May. We have a field trip this summer and it looks like 2 more speakers this fall. We have high ticket raffles where you have been able to win things like light fixtures and Vortech pumps. Still to come is a Kalk Reactor, Protein Skimmer and maybe even a Calcium Reactor. None of this would be possible without ALL of our sponsors.

Question? Do they know that?

Thats been a long time coming, Jeff. Thanks. And remember, this board is to share knowledge about the hobby!!!!!

Soooo...what are you trying to say??

J/K .

Point well taken and btw Jeff, you're doing a great job!

The board is a forum for everyone to share their thoughts and ideas. Its supposed to be an open forum where everyone has the right to say what the want within the guidelines of reef central. I know for stores we cant say much, but I think it is out of line for certain people to say stop talking about stores in general. I think certain store owners are just getting upset that certain other stores are getting the press. I think if that "other" store got better press than they would not be complaining.

Like I said before, everyone has there own opinion and these forum is for sharing information no matter what information it is.

I agree that store bashing is not appropriate on this site and that should be controled.

I am a C.T.A.R.S. member, and I am here for the club and every other hobbyist.

Thanks Jeff and agreed very well said!! :fish2: And to reefkrazy They do now :)

hey thats cool. By the way I had a very nice time with Joe today at pc. Also, I'm a coral wh@re! I get it EVERYWHERE!

for a long time now every other store has been talked up every now and then , like oh boy puppy center has a big new shipment of corals, and other stores are talked up the same, now along come fintastics and you post up this thread must be bad timing on your part . fair time for all this web site is getting a little to much lately, hope it changes to many people are too sensitve out here, I am staying away for awhile maybe it will change back to the old site I can only hope

Jeff well said and I think that both Fintastic and you have got 2 ideas that could very easily mesh into one and become a good overall point about not bashing other stores.

These stores are run by people that are trying to make a living. If you have something good to say about a store by all means post it however if you have something not so nice to say please refrain from posting it, it makes for a much less agressive/agravated enviroment.

Just my opinon on the topic. ;)

I thought this club belonged to it's members, not it's sponsors. Sponsors are greatly appreciated, but that shouldn't mean that they are immune to criticism if they do something wrong, or that they are undeserving of praise if they do something right. Our government already belongs to the special interests, and the corporations . . . let's keep this club to ourselves, shall we?

Hmm, I like that..."well said"...

FYI, I support all stores mentioned above, but on the last thought, how else is a lfs gonna know what we really think about their live stock, demeanor & services if we can't get it across without truely being considered...

NO ANSWER'S REQUIRED, thanks for letting us rant...:mad2:

I started the "bunch of coral" post and I'll continue to share what I feel is a good deal anywhere I go. Maybe someone is looking for a particular fish and doesn't want to drive all over CT wasting almost $3/gal gas.

Maybe I can offer a different prespective. A few months ago Puppy Center was getting alot of shine. Lots of pictures, threads, and shipment updates. This was fine by me. I have a great relationship with the store, and liked seeing what they have. That shine came to an end when a bunch of members/club sponsers thought it got excessive. I seem to recall a thread getting deleted as well. Honestly I was a bit annoyed but hey it ain't my club or my site. Now comes Fintastic, and they are getting the shine. Maybe 4-5 threads in the last couple weeks. Now put yourselves in the shoes of a club supporter, that has flat out been told to stop posting about there shop, or even a loyal patron of such a store? Now vendor feedback is totally different, as is showing off your new favorite coral. Nothing against Fintastic because I hear great things about them but the only fair way is to level the playing field in one way shape or form.

That said the real solution is for us to have our discussion forum on our own site. You want to post your new shipments? Great pay $X per month in sponsorship and we'll set you up a forum. Then you can post about your store until the cows come home.
Not to mention the fact we can moderate overselves and make our own choices. Just my .02 not trying to argue with anyone. :)
