ATTN: LFS employees

A man comes in, and tells me about his new tank, and wants to know what he can add.

Me: Well.. right now, just from the time you have had your tank, I would say adding more fish is not a good idea.

Him: Well, someone told me to put damsels in, and I did. They are
happy, and I swear my water stats are fine. Can I get some more damsels at least?"

Me: I explain why damsels won't be good in the longrun, etc. He still wants to add more blue damsels. He said his parameters were fine, and that the damsels he had were happy. I bag 2 blue damsels.

...He is checking out.. and I am going over acclimation w/ him.. then I ask..:
"What are you feeding the damsels you have now?"

Him: "Wait. You have to feed them?!?"

Me: *facepalm* "We're going to pick up some food today too."

well no longer a LFS employee but!

well no longer a LFS employee but!

funny things still happens my new Favorite I am working at the Zoo for Park Safety. We have a big sign that says Welcome to the detroit zoo also a big water tower that says Detroit Zoo huge brick fence etc. at least once a day somebody roles up and either ask directions on how to get to the zoo or where it is.. I mean come on people! :eek1:

I, for some reason, went into a local petsmart the other day. I happened by the fish tanks while a store employee was about to feed the tanks. This cemented my belief in the ignorance of big box store employees about their livestock. Sorry for lumping you all together, but you know what happens with a bad apple.... It seems to be very fitting to lump big box stores together. There may be exceptions, but those are few and far between.

The girl feeding the tanks must have been told that you feed 'these pellets to these cichlids' and you feed 'this flake to the community stuff'. All of their fish were too small to eat the huge pellets she was throwing in there. Only the community fish were able to eat anything because they were getting flake. No wonder all the cichlids were emaciated. They were all pathetically pecking at the floating pellets that were fresh. To top it off she was putting about ten times too much food in every tank and the pellets were forming fungus covered masses in the corners of the tanks.

I just stopped and watched the whole scene because I found it hilarious. A business puts thousands of dollars into a setup each year and cannot train an employee to do one of the most important and simplest things involved with maintaining fish. They were at least 3mm pellets that she was trying to feed to 2 inch fish, it was great.

You find it to be hilarious that someone is abusing the reputation of our hobby? I'm not a PETA member but I would at least try to correct them on their husbandry skills.

Too many people out there for me to correct. I do find it hilarious as well as many other stories in this thread about the idiots out there. If I try to correct them I get them arguing with me and if I don't I get people like you calling me a troll because I didn't try to help. You are making this even more hilarious.

Thats what we call a win win situation eh...

All you can do is laugh to yourself. It's not your job to take care of the world.

Wife: "I had to remove the nipples from a boxer this morning."

Me: "What?"

Wife: "This woman told Dr. Jenny to remove her dogs nipples."

Uhm..... What? Am I not getting the point? Because this doesn't happen right? I mean........ really..... ?

Lets play nice kids. This is one of those rare threads where LFS employees have been able to blow off steam at stupid customers, without getting bashed. There are plenty of threads out there unfairly dogging those of us in the industry. Lets keep this one civil so we can keep enjoying the stories ;)

We had drunken poker nights or the local ribs place for everyone on the staff over the age of 21, where we could all bash customers AND employees AND totally get away with it.... at least until the next morning when people had to haul their hungover butts to work and pretend like they didn't have a massive headaches.

Personal Quote:
"I've not nearly had enough drinks to answer that question at this time."

Boss:
"Oh, waitress, can we get the lady here another Ketel One."

Me:
*shaking fist in the air* "Darn you.... so... wait... what were we talking about?" *answers the question I was dodging LONG before the next drink arrives.

I had a lot of people buy tank setups from me that they probably couldn't afford.... Spending 2k on a setup that I'm sure will be the nicest thing in their double wide (I'm sure they didn't actually live in a trailer, but seemed to be in the same demographic). One couple would add up their purchase, and discuss when the next disability check was coming, and then spend as much as they could.
I think they had a successful tank, but their kids needed new shoes and they were spending thousands on an aquarium.

Bingo! My sentiments exactly! I don't find the abuse of these animals the slightest bit funny. Even if the ignorance of those who attempt to keep them is astonishing.

We need to educate these people and then make fun of them. Not the other way around.

I'm not a humorless person. Just a concerned one when it comes to these matters.
