"OK well what kind of filter is it?"
"I have no idea"

or the "Yeah i'm thinking about moving up to a 180 in a few months.....blah blah blah..........so what's the cheapest algae scraper you got?"

I hired an ex-Petco employee once... biggest mistake ever...

ooo this sounds good tell more

Was in petco a few years back, the "fish" guy was taking out the bio wheels of the MARS system and dumping them in a peculiar smelling trashcan. I asked him if he was having a maintenance issue to which he replied "Im just cleaning out the biowheels to keep the algae down" The smell from the trash can was bleach. Lmao I told the guy what the Biowheels were actually for and that cleaning them was the last thing he needed to do. He told me that his manager was the one that showed him how to do this. So I guess stupidity was on all levels at that particular petco.

I thought this was an interesting post; not only the ignorance of the prospective customers or future hobbyists but the arrogant and the stupidity of the so-called LFS employees and owners....

This hobby requires some knowleges of saltwater keeping and is not for everyone...

Those who work in a saltwater-lfs should try to inform if not educate your prospective customers/hobbyists instead just selling. It's call good services. Laughing or poking fun to those who don't know the hobby well may make you feel better but it won't help with your prosective business.

No wonder so many LFS are not doing well as it should be and some even out of business.

The bottom line, they customers may not be right but they are the ones that pay your bills....

If you don't like the forum, don't read it. This forum is for LFS employees to share their stories that have left them either bewildered or just plain made them laugh. Not to say how stupid everyone one is as if LFS employees were some Salt Water Deities
There are and have been plenty of forums where people have had the opportunity to rant about LFS's that they have had bad experiences with, so there's no need to bring that in here.

I am not a LFS employee but go to many LFSs. Today I go into a Petco and I told the women working in the fish department that she needs to treat all of the saltwater fish for ich and parasites.

Guess what she said."its appart of there look its perfectly safe."

This is why I like going to family/small buissneses because they actualy care about there livestock unlike most large franchises.

Also they had a 8"-10" Niger Trigger in a 10g aquarium.

We are talking about two different types of ignorance here

one type is not knowing the difference between a ocellaris and a percula or hammer and a frogspawn.......this type is not the spirt of the thread and is fixable

the other type of ignorance is not knowing sharks aren't mammals and cleaning the allergy in your tank......this is the ignorance that baffles, excites, saddens, impresses, and amazes me....this type is not fixable

most LFS employees truly enjoy working with the fixable type of ignorance

yep thats why were here to tell people what's what and how to take care of it, but i'm still amazed that people will lie in a fish store for no reason
