August meeting?

Hello everyone. I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend.

Last month one of our new members volunteered to open his house and pool to us and to show off his beautiful tank. While it was tons of fun and loaded with delicious food, it was poorly attended by anyone north of Petaluma (besides Jake).

The question before us is whether we should even have a meeting this month. I understand being busy with summer activities and that's fine.

But the raffle needs a certain number of participants to keep it self sustaining, and blowing the raffle budget when only a handful or two of members show up isn't going to keep it going. Last month I gave out frags of my own.

I'm open to ideas and suggestions. What say you?

I wonder if it's not so much the location as the day. When I first joined the club we met every other month and it was on I believe a week night. It might be wise to do a little poll and see if more people would make it on a different day and if we went every other month.

It could also be an economic thing $20 for raffle $20 for food and bev if we go to a restaurant. I agree there needs to be some kind of change.

For me, I just get my weekends booked up, summer time...
Just got back from a week in the Sierras, the weather was fantastic!

For me, it is an unfortunate coincidence that our once-a-month meetings almost always coincide with my once-a-month publishing schedule... and while I can usually squeeze a Friday evening meeting, the "all afternoon" meetings are a bit tougher.

Given that having a speaker seems to be less of a priority now than it was at the beginning... and the raffle seems to be the high point of the meeting (along with the general socializing), perhaps going to an every other month schedule might be an o.k. idea? or maybe do it every six weeks, so it comes at a different time of the month (and perhaps even vary the day/night of the week we hold it)?

I personally would love to attend more often, especially now that my Tank of Death seems to be thing of the past (knock on wood) and I should be able to start bringing more frags for the swaps/raffles.

I don't know my schedule yet. School will start and that point I'll start doing carpool down to petaluma. Summer changed when a whole bunch of parents volunteered for carpooling their gymnasts. My daughter will start competitions in august at that point just about every weekend until december will be shot.

Should we have an official meeting this month, it would most likely be around the usual second Friday or Saturday of the month, which on this case would be the 13th or 14th.

Is that when you would be at Shasta Shane?

Sounds like it might be wise to skip this month. It's kind of puzzling why the club has lost so much attendance in the last couple of years. All clubs go thru up and down attendance. I think it may be the Economy. my old 20/30 club is down to 50 members and usually has about 80.

I can come to the meeting this month if it is on Friiday. The weekends oar usually hard for me especially in the summer.

There are more "don't bother" or "can't make it" posts here than "yes let's meet" ones, so I'm cancelling the August meeting. We'll see if there is more interest in meeting in September.

I cordially invite anyone who isn't doing anything Saturday, August 14th to an informal, nonofficial, get together to discuss coral husbandry while we drink fine ales  (or whatever you want to bring) and eat tasty food. I'm thinking about possibly cooking some ribs and challenge anyone who cooks ribs to bring theirs, and we'll see whose ribs taste best. :) Of course, other offerings to the gods of culinary or beverage delight are welcome.

I'm thinking noonish. If you could rsvp if you intend to show, then I'll know how many ribs to not eat before you get here. ;)

I'll probably be handing out some frags to those who are interested, as I tend to do that after drinking fine ales.

Aye, a challenge it be! Bring it!

Actually it's all a cleverly designed ruse to get you to make your ribs. ;) I had to get everyone to agree to not meet first so this could happen. (not!)

Hey guys sounds interesting. I am heading to Placerville on Wed, Thurs, and Fri but will be heading home on Friday so I can probably make it. Let me know what to bring and I will stop by.

Yeah I will be trying out a new area for flyfishing so hopefully I will have some stories and photos to share!

Sounds good Craig! I look forward to seeing some pics of sloppy trout that fell for your flies.

And Grant, I can tell you're warming up for my ribs with the "mmmmmmm" part of your posting. :)
