August Reefer of the Month---slief!!

congratulations, love the pics with the eel. What did you do with your sharks when you decided to get rid of them?

I made soup! Just kidding! :lmao:

I was already importing them for resale and the demand exceeded the supply so finding a home for them was never an issue. It was quite contrary in fact because I was never able get enough of them. One of the White Tips went to the Mirage Hotel in Vegas and was kept in their huge tank behind the check in counter for many years after that. They payed a pretty penny for it too. Then again, they made me measure it from tip to tail to insure it's exact length before they committed to purchasing it. It had to be 3' or better or they would not take it. They paid for the fish, they paid for the crate that I built which was 48" x 36". They had it picked up at 5AM at my house, brought to Burbank Airport, flown to Vegas counter to counter and then delivered to the Hotel curators. I won't get into to dollar amounts but it was well into the 4 digits and this was back in the mid 90's. I was able to recognize that fish by it's birthmarks every time I visited. They had several at the time.

The other White Tip in the picture went to a fish store if I remember correctly.

Scott is a huge asset to the hobby. I bought my first controller from him a few years back. It was an original Aquacontroller serial #968 manufactured circa 1996, it still works and I'm thinking of donating it to the Neptune museum as I have moved on to an Apex. He gave me a great deal on it and went so far above and beyond to help me get it up and running. So from me a sincere congrats, it is a well deserved honor. Also casting my vote now for reefer of the year!

Thank you very much Laugh! That was very kind of you! I remember you well too! That original Aqua Controller (my very first controller) served me very well for a lot of years and like you, the Apex was the natural next step! I was very happy to see it go to a good home and equally happy to hear it served you well!

Thanks again for your kind sentiments! It's VERY much appreciated!

Just now peeking into who you are and what you have added to the hobby the last 17 or so years, I am inspired. I hope I can dig up more information on specifics regarding your experiences. Thank you for taking the time to share with the rest of us. I love how one of the gurus is hanging around here, so close to home.
I look forward to seeing more of your experience(s) shared in the upcoming months and years.

sounds like you've had some awesome times in the hobby, grats and keep it going!
One thing though, I think you must have a pair made of stainless steel if you pet that eel after it bit a shark in HALF!!!! I'm glad you still have both arms to clean your fish tank!
;)
