I got a threadfin butterfly and I am babysitting it for a week or so. All my coral is gone, so its by itself. The guy I got it from said it was doing fine in his reef. Would it do all right in mine when I get my coral back(which is being babysit by someone else)? I have a 29 gal and I have a 180 to be set up soon as I buy a house, hopefully within a year. Are these guys totally un-reef safe?

I had one in a 180 soft coral reef and he left the shrooms, leathers, polyps, and LT anemone alone. I didnt keep SPS or clams but I did try a frag of frogspawn given to me by a friend and he promptly ate that. My guess is that he would have eaten or nipped any stony coral. HTH

huh, I have a really nice branch anchor/hammer coral thats the showpiece of my tank. My tank consists primarily of zoos...I would start to notice him if he decides to eat my coral right? hes not going to mow through it in an hour or is he?

Probably not, mine took about two days to eat that small frag of frogspawn, you would have time if he started nibbling if you could fish him out. I know all fish are different but a butterfly is a pretty big risk with LPS.
