I have a 4inch Aus.harliquen tusk. Its been in my tank for about a month. 120g. The past week it has been hiding. Its right fin is moving slowly and looks kind of swollen at the bottom part of its fin. But it does swim around here and there. But not as active as before. It has been eating. But not like a beast as before. No signs of ick on its fins or anywhere. Wont take the krill, squid. Only here and there will take lil pieaces of emarld entree. I dip its food in garlic extreme. Anybody have any info about its fin or what else to look out for. Thank you.

Is the base of the fin reddened at all? Could be a bacterial infection. What else is in the tank? Anything pestering the tusk? A pic would help too.

The water qualities are good. P.H 8.3. everything is at 0. The tank has been up for 16 months. 120 Gallon. I have a maroon clown and a purple tang, diamond goby and just alot of turbo and nazair snails, a few cleaner shrimp, 2 star fish. Im going to take a pic and post it up. Actually. The bottom of the right fin thats bairly moving is swollen. LIke a bump connecting to the fin. The bottom color of the fin is a yellowish color. No ick, no white spots on it. It swims around from time to time. But not as active as before and not eating like a beast like before. I have had it for almost a month. Just this week i was noticing it was eating and just hiding. I spent alot of money. Should i take him out and quaratine or leave him in and leave the lights off for a few.

Well unfortuntly. I found him R.I.P at the bottom this morning. Sucks $120 downt the drain. I cant call it. Maybe, a bacterial infection that just got worse and stressed him out. My puple tang and other live stock are doing fine. No ick. Water quality is good. Ph 8.3 the rest at 0. Salt 102.3. I will wait a couple of months and see if i get another aus. tusk.

Go to FishVet site and follow their chart to see if it will isolate your problem. The site URL is http://www.fishvet.com/sw_parasite_chart.htm If your fish died of a parasite then all of your fish have the parasite and must be treated whether or not they exhibit symptoms; the tank also have the parasite and must be fallow, fish-less, for 8 weeks. The most common parasites are Ich and its various forms (I include marine velvet in this list because it has the same cure) and Brooklynella. Formalin baths will cure both Ich and Brook although the preferred cure for Ich is copper; Brook can only be cured with Formalin Baths. The reason your tank must be kept fish-less for 8 weeks is the eggs of the Ich parasite can lay dormant in the substrata for up to 8 weeks. Once they hatch the swimmer must find a host in a short period of time or die. Brook multiplies by cell division. The new cell is a swimmer and can persist in the tank for 4 weeks. If it does not find a host fish it will die. Check out the about chart and see if your fish died of any of these causes. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. But the wierd thing is. My tank has been up for 17 months now. I have not had a problem with ick. Niether has my other livestock. Patience is the key. Im just going to wait a few months. If everything still seems o.k ill invest again on another aus. tusk. hopefully
