Aus Ric Yuma Lighting/Flow

Hi, i'm setting up a Ric tank and interested in your thoughts on lighting and flow.

the tank is a 2ftx1ftx1ft with 1 inch sandbed. 2 x 55w power compacts(1x10k and 1x actinic) roughly 3 inches above the tank, water depth to corals max10 inch. will the 2x55 be good?

i have a 250g/hr power head in there at the moment which gives 20 times flow. is this good also?

currently i have them in a 2ft x14inx16 in with 2in sandbed, 150W mh and 2x24 PL, with 100x flow, 2x 6025 full + wide flow mod.

any comments greatly appreciated

Im guessing that these guys will actually grow better in this tank than they do in the other. I have found that yumas do better under florescet lighting (PC, T5HO) than they do directly under MH lighting. I also dont think that they need massive amounts of flow... 20x should be more than adaquate.

Let us know how it goes.

hi icy,

thanks for the feedback. i'm thinking of turning down the powerhead to about 10-15x flow and getting a hangon filter to add carbon and rowaphos. probably get the aquaclear 30 hangon.

this powerhead i think is too much, its moving the sand around.

you are right about the mh,the rics under 2x24w power compacts look better than when the mh turns on, but maybe a 20 k lamp would bring out better colours.
