Aussie Platygyra Seems Unhappy

I bought a green Aussie Playgyra today from a LFS. After acclimating him for a few hours, I placed him in my tank about 1/3 from the top. Almost immediately it started getting these long green strands coming from it. I noticed the color underneath the strands where colorless. I fear he may be stressed and purging. I don't have any pics as I turned the lights off to reduce stress. I know its hard without pictures, but can anyone tell me what may be happening and what i should do?

I would start it on the sand till it gets use to your lights.

Also, how are you measuring your salinity?

BTW: I did move it towards the bottom and it recovered very well. It seems very happy now.

I measure salinity with a Milwaukee Digital Seawater Refractometer.
