Aussie Tusk Pics

This is my first wrasse of any kind, so I'm wondering if it's normal for the fish to eat and then regurgitate it's food a couple of times before keeping it down.

It has figured out how to pick large pellets off of the bottom but won't keep those down the first time either.

Yeah mine does that as well. Grabs a large chunk, spits it out, grabs it again...eventually he eats it.

The only thing that really sucks about these guys is that they get picked on easily. Mine is afraid of every fish in the tank...even the more docile tangs.

That Tusk is absolutely gorgeous. It has such striking colors.

It's totally normal for them to act goofy like in your last pic.

Again, WOW!

Another "is this normal question." This is his favorite spot to hang out. Do they just lay around and rest like this? Hopped off the perch as soon as I fed, and took a pretty ferocious bite at me when I tried to move it off of the pump.

I guess it isn't much different from laying on the bottom and looking around. Maybe I should invest in some bunk beds for the tusk.

Really want a HT and this thread isn't helping at all! I saw this post and thought it died and was sucked against the pump at first, very glad he's still alive and happy!

Great looking fish.

Nice Pics...I have an Indo Tusk, nice fish, but sure wish I had gotten the more colorful Aussie.

Mine exhibits some goofy behavior as well, he wedges himself in some odd places to chill out.

Despite being a larger fish, it's scared to death of my powder blue tang. The tang isn't aggressive towards it, but the tusk freaks out every time they get near each other.

That tusk is absolutely gorgeous. I've been wanting one of those for awhile but I'm limited by tank size. Good luck with him, I'll be staying tuned for updates!

great pictures! i also have my tusk with a niger and blue throat trigger.i had a bad experience with a tusk i had before with a pbt ,it ended with the tusk getting picked on until he had to be removed.

I got mine from DD a few weeks ago and he is doing great. Ate some cut of shrimp and mysis the first night and flake and NLS pellets the next day. Can't beat the fish from DD, you won't have anything to worry about. They do come in big though but I'm sure you know that.

Like the others said, even though they may be the biggest fish he will probably get bullied a little. My purple tang was a total b!tch to him for a few days but they worked it out. What else are you keeping him with?

I would like to get one of these as well, but how are they with other fish such as tangs and wrasses?

He is going in a pretty mellow tank. Female blue throat trigger, pair of swallowtail angels, dwarf lion, kole tang. It's a 150g. My bigger concern right now is possible losing power over the weekend due to this stupid hurricane and I don't have backup power :(

Here is our A.Tusk "Dracula", he gets along great with the others and we have 3 small Caribbean Chromis that are only an inch big and he doesn't bother them at all. Thats his buddy "Napoleon" next to him.

I think like a lot of other fish they get bolder with time. Mine is out all of the time now, no more hiding in the rocks or on the pump.

The powder blue decided to let him live so the tusk no longer runs for it's life.

Temperament is a lot like my blue throat trigger. A little shy at first, now front and center without picking on anyone. Can still defend itself if it needs to. Swims in the top half of the tank.

Tusk freaked out today and tried to carpet surf but crashed into the glass lid instead. Has a broken tooth for his efforts. Will that grow back?

Looks like a hillbilly.
