Austin's Innovative Marine SR-120

I had some credit so I picked up two Tunze 9004's. They are doing quite well. I am happy with my purchases.

Looks great. Now that's an investment.

I was talking to Randy about that same tank the other day. I couldn't afford the coin.

The people at Innovative Marine are great.

In my 38 rimless I took the 3 stage filter compartment and removed the sponges and filters. Cut a filter sock to fit over it and used rubber bands to hold it on. Then tossed a sponge on top to stop splashing. I changed the Socks out every 2 weeks.

As we all know Socks work the best.

Any tank updates? I have ordered the sr-80, I am down sizing to this from a 8ft. I am hoping it handles a mixed reef well.

We'll I got my sr-80, I am just water testing it and I am finding the baffle before the return pump is making a lot of noise. Very similar to a drain it fills and then empties, this is also causing air bubbles to be formed and they get sucked into the pump causing micro bubbles.

Are you experiencing anything like that?

Yep, I just keep the back sump area topped off with water just slightly above the baffle. 90% of the water still goes thru it, the other 10% falls over the top and down but this way there is no noise as the water isn't being slurped down and thus no bubbles forming thru the return pumps.

Yes, the biggest flaw is the back of the tank. You have to run it higher to reduce the sound or do things to muffle the sound. Nobody wants a tank that sounds like Niagara Falls.

The first thing I did was put a pad where the water comes in. It reduces the water rush sound a ton.

Next I run the next baffle so that it flows right over it. It is not ideal but it keeps the noise down.

Also I am leaning towards the ghost skimmer. It won't be available until mid June.

I just set up my Nuvo SR-120. I put black plastic netting over the socks. This seemed to reduce the sound a lot.

I'm not sure what the water level should be. The manual says it should be 1 inch from the "last baffle". Is that the baffle where the sock hangs?

I'll try to attach a photo.

My Skimmate Ghost should be in next week.

I actually ordered a Ghost Skimmer from my local LFS. It is coming in on Thursday. I am excited to give it a try.

My full size Innovative Marine Ghost Skimmer arrived today.

Fits in the SR-120 very well and is flush so you can't see it from the front of the tank.

I placed mine in yesterday. Unfortunately, there is no adjustable air valve as indicated on the package. There is a sucking sound that I am muffling by placing tubing over the air valve as shown in my picture.

How are you guys finding the temp of your tank? My water keeps heating up and the chiller is on a lot. Comparing to my old tank with a sump it still running and the chiller never turns on at the moment.

I'm running five AI Sol LED lights and my temp is a steady 77 - 78 degrees without a chiller. Ambient temp is about 74 degrees. I do have A/C in my house but don't need it yet.
