Austin's Innovative Marine SR-120

With every build you always want to tweak it on the next build. I like the sr-120. I can easily get into the tank with the shallow footprint.

I am a fan of making your tank as automated as possible.

Apex is a must that controls the outlets, temp, ph, ato

I like the radions and the arms. It looks clean.

I am a fan of buying two heaters so If one dies the second one can keep up.

Buy a good skimmer. I like the ghost skimmer from innovative.

Overall it is a good tank. Rimless does have a higher daily maint compared to one with a cabinet over it since splashes and various things get out.

Thanks for the reply, I absolutely love the rimless look. Your tank looks awesome. Do you think that the single IM ghost is enough? Or would it be better using 2?

Yes, the ghost skimmer full size model which is made for the sr-120 works well. It pulls the gunk out pretty well and no issues.

I am thinking about getting the sr80 so have to ask again, now that it is several months later, how is that ghost skimmer still working?

I noticed a month ago that the skimmer was SUPER LOUD and I took it to my LFS and they took it apart and said that the shaft was cracked. So I emailed Innovative with my receipt and the issue along with a video and they quickly sent me a new shaft piece and now it is silent.

I have two different sizes of the skimmer. SR-120 & Fusion 40 and they work well.

I have the Full size Ghost in my SR-120 and I cant seem to get much from it. I have talked to IM, they replaced some parts but still, with the cup all the way down, it barely produces enough foam to rise up.

Not sure what to do, I have tried all compartments, all water levels, etc.

With the collection cup out of your ghost, is there quite a bit of foam producing at the top of the waterline inside? Mine barely makes enough to cover the water level.

FYI for all the thread followers that are interested in the skimmer that fits the SR tanks...just wanted to share that I picked up the Tunze 9012. I had so many issues with the ghost skimmer, it never really bubbled high enough for the collection cup, had it replaced, pushed all the way down...tried it all. If it wasn't particularly level in the compartment, it didn't seem to do much.

Anyways, the new 9012 I must say is pretty legit. Fit absolutely perfect in the same compartment and in 12 hrs of break in, I have this:

Its pretty clear skim for now, but is dead silent, and I have the air wide open so in the near future ill have to tune it down. Thought I would share.

I have had the shaft of my Ghost SR-120 skimmer replaced three times. The epoxy at the magnet and shaft eventually fails and then vibration occurs. I'll continue to contact them every time it fails (about every 5 months) to get it replaced. Maybe they will use a different shaft in the future.

Can you take more pictures of the Tunze 9012? I would like to know how much it sticks up.

Thank you.

Yeah innovative replaced my shaft and not it is now silent and works well. The new shaft is only 3 weeks old so I am intrigued to see if it dies again. Maybe there is a real issue with how the skimmer is constructed but Innovative took care of the issue in a timely manner so I have no complaints.

Eastamherstbias - I have a SR-120 with the exact same light setup as you (Radion Mounting and Radion Model).. What intensity are you keeping your lights at? Just curious in how it compares to mine.

Mine hit 35% at peak

Thanks

I like the sr tanks. Just plan the sump area well because you don't have a ton of space back there.

Yea I noticed. It's the obvious downside of large AIO style tanks. I'm used to making due with small compartment areas due to my last few tanks being nano AIO tanks. These are built like tanks though I couldn't believe the weight haha

Hi! First of all, congrats on your setup. It is stunning! Secondly, I am thinking of buying that exact same tank but coming from a sump system I was wondering if you could let me know your opinion on some of my questions/fears?

- noise level: my current tank is in the leaving room and when I close the cabinet doors to the sump it is very very quiet. How do you find the SR-120?

- aesthetics: the tank is gorgeous but how aware are you of the wires and tubbing coming out of the back in "real life"?

- practicality: how easy do you find doing maintenance on this tank? Have you ever cleaned the back compartments/sump? Do these accumulate detritus/algae and how do you clean them? Is it easy to service the return pumps?

-limitations: do you feel the AIO design limits your options in terms of equipment? Have you installed a UV?

I am very sorry for all these questions but would really appreciate your input on these and any other you may find relevant from your experience.

Congrats on your reef and many thanks!
