Not sure if this has ever been discussed or thought about. But where do you think the best acro's come from? Whether maricultured or wild, what is everyone's thoughts? Does one country seem to have a better species than another? Does wild acro's from one country seem to hold color better with the coral over time? I am sure there is many questions and just thought this would be interesting topic to discuss. Thanks.

It seems to me that a lot of the latest "named" acros come from Ausi. I believe a majority of the farmed acros come from bali area. The best acros come from the Frick Sea tho. LOL

Right now most people will say Aussie. That has to do with the fact that collection hasnt been open too long there and they do have some wicked corals. Still some nice stuff in other areas as well though....but Aussie has the hype because its the new kid on the block....also coming from a developed country they have supposedly better collection and shipping practices....although higher prices (which really just makes people believe they are the best).

What I would like to see is Australian maricultured colonies coming in. Some one should farm the crap out of the echinata and strawberry shortcake. Than maybe I can find them, and afford them...:)

The best deepwaters tend to come from Indo along with some sick SPS, and the best maricultured colonies come from Bali.

Fiji has the best consistency in acros overall, and a ton of the "Aussie" acros are actually Fiji labels that the wholesaler/retailer threw the Aussie name on for markup. Chances are if you've got a nice acro in your tank then it came from Fiji.

The Solomon Islands is where the purple Acropora tortuosas come from, as well as the pink lemonades and purple monsters. I'd say the hardiest ones are from the Solomons and Indonesia.

There's very few acros in the hobby that actually come from Australia, just the blue echinatas and shortcakes and a few others here and there. There's at least one wholesaler and quite a few retailers who fudge the origin on their acros as "Aussie" for a quick buck.

Tonga doesn't have too much in the way of great Acros, at least not that I've seen.

I'd say the best overall would be a toss-up between Fiji and Indonesia, I've seen some of the nicest pieces come from both places. I prefer Indo because I like deepwaters and they get some ridiculous ones from out there.

the best corals are aquacultured...so much more hardy and keep their colors well. But coming from the wild..aussie corals have amazing color. I've seen some vanutua corals that were awesome as well. Anything from the thailand/aussie area are sweet.

Good info organism.

And t4z, I do agree with you. My intention of the post was to not dispute whether aquacultured was better than wild, more so what is everyone's take and experience on where the nice, able to maintain wild colonies come from. Thanks for the responses thus far.

Does most people feel the same way as the others that posted here?

Fiji? Tonga? Everyone knows the biggest and best frags come from the over priced chop shops on the internet!!! :lol2:

(NOT!)

This is why I like RC. I never knew the WS was doing this..horrible...
