Australian black clown fish

Ok, So I have a pair of black clown fish, this behavior may be 100% normal but since I am relatively new to them I do not know. My large clown from time to time hovers very close to the rock for sometimes a few hours (maybe hunting for things in the rock). Overall appears healthy, my nitrates are a bit high this afternoon but are normally @ 0. I believe they are up due to the fact I just killed off a bunch of algae and cyano etc... All other parameters good. Any insight is welcome.

If the clown is eating and moving about the tank it should be fine. Hard to tell with no pics or videos.

Eats like a pig, still swims around the tank from time to time. I will try to catch some pictures next time. Over all looks healthy.

Sounds like she may be adopting the rock as a surrogate host.

Bit odd it has a perfectly good anemone to host, however I think it is a bit to hidden for their liking. Do clown's eat copepods etc as well?

Odd doesn't describe clownfish. I have a beautiful deep red RBTA, with probably close to a 10-12" oral disc.... yet both of my misbar black clowns host a tiny 4 head duncan frag or a large feather duster....

Dread is right! Some weeks ago, I got bit by the clownfish bug again. So, I got a nice black occ female and really cool misbar male onyx perc. They were fine for several weeks, then I decided to get back into anemones again. I got a decent sized S. Haddoni. They didn't want anything to do with it, during the day they would just swim about the tank, but at night they would waggle and ruffle the same spot on a rock...

A few weeks went by and I saw at a LFS 2 black clowns being hosted by a haddoni, so I switched out my female for his...same result. Wants nothing to do with my anemone, but will "flirt" with some grape caulerpa. Idiots.
