Hi all. I have a beautiful australian tuskfish that needs a nice large tank. He eats like a champ. He is approx. 4 1/2 ". $120.00

Very nice Carole. I know you hate to lose him, but you are doing what's best. I admire you for knowing when a fish just needs more that you can give it. Good luck. A fish like that would retail much more...especially Australian. Their colors are so much more vibrant than the regular ones.

Thank you all. He really is an awesome fish.On the question of how he is with inverts...this tank was very carefully planned around that little bluespot puffer you see there{they are buds and swim together:( } even the corals had to be tested to see which ones she would tear up.She loves gorgonians.. Anyway..all of the inverts were in the tank when I got the tusk. If I add new ones I do it when they are'nt looking, and I add the same type that I have in there so they don't notice anything out of sorts. They include 2 zebra turbo snails that are as big as my fists{I can barely pull them up they are so strong} a few mexican type turbos with spikey shells, cortez mexican redlegged hermits, a few cucumbers, a small serpent star, a diadema urchin, and a pair of coral banded shrimp. I specifically chose inverts that are tougher than most. So far, if the tusk is hungry he will pick up a hermit and sling it at me to get my attention, but that is all. Inverts kept with semi-aggressive fish actually learn to stay hidden until the coast is clear. You will see the crabs huddled along the edges of the rockwork by day, the two big snails and the diadema hang in the back under a rock..at night they all come out. Mexican red legs are also known as left handed hermits.. they have a big claw and if threatened they close it down over the opening of their shell. Now I would'nt go dangling a cleaner shrimp or small snail over the tank, as they would be considered lunch. Small nassarius were a no-go in this tank way before the tusk came along.
His tankmates include the puffer, a starry blenny, a freidmani psuedochromis, a tiger jawfish, and a sandhopper blenny. There are several reasons I want to let the tusk go.. most important I was promised a small one by the supplier..which would have given me time for an upgrade in the size of the tank. He sent a med-large and he is just too big for this tank. The other reason is before he came along..my sandhopper would sit out front and center..now he is afraid and hides most of the time. And his constant swimming by is stressing out my jawfish.. who really tried hard to jump out the other day. He is just intimidating my little guys, and I'm not willing to part with them. It's just what is best for the fish..he needs a nice 180 or something.;)
Sorry for the book.:D

He eats silversides for breakfast and a late night snack, also piscine mysis, and fresh shrimp, squid, clams and mussels in the shell from the grocers. All soaked in selcon, zoe, and sometimes some garlic extreme. The silversides are the bulk of his diet..he loves them... and let me tell you this fish is thick !
