Auto fish feeder and jumping fish?

Hi all

I am looking into getting anthias and flaher wrasse, and know that the top of the tank must stay closed to preent jumping.

Also have read about the need for frequent feeding of these fish, and how folks set up Eheim auto feeders for this purpose.

So how do you use the auto feeder while still keeping the top of the tank closed enough to avoid carpet surfing? Just hope the opening for the auto feeder is small enough?

TIA

DYI screen tops, like the ones for sale at Bulk Reef Supply, are an option... otherwise, where the food falls needs to be the only opening.

Good Luck

I used the 1/4" nylon mesh, and for a frame I sandwiched the mesh between 2 pieces of 1/4" x 1" acrylic that lays on my euro-bracing. Then to keep the pellets from being swept down the overflow I glued a small piece of tubing onto the side of the acrylic frame so that it sticks down into the water.

Granted this would not work or everyone, but it does for me.

Closed loop pipes going into the back and box out for gutter guard protected overflow.

I just looked and don't have any pics on photobucket of the feeder tube. I'm out of town. I'll have to see if I can post one later.

I have glass covers--wouldnt mind using screen for one of the sections--would help with temperature and O2/CO2 exchange anyway.

Makes sense, I think the NLS pellets would fit

Thanks all

Have you thought about hooking up the Auto feeder in your sump, right above your pump? I plan on doing this as soon as I order my Neptune AFS and it should work perfectly.
