Automatic Feeding

"smart jumpers" that sounds funny. I guess that would be called an oxymoron because they don't look too smart all dried up on the carpet.

Haha, I know what you mean. Wrasses really do look for the openings in the top, which is why you need to cover the whole tank.

I have a funnel with a tube leading to the return line in my sump. The output from my carbon reactor empties into the funnel, much like one of the "miniature toilets" that you spit into at the dentist's office.

My automatic feeder is filled with a mix of pellets and freeze dried Cyclopeeze, and dumps into the funnel. The food is then pumped to the display tank through the return lines.

The nice thing about it is that by the time the pellets hit the display, they're saturated, so they never go into the overflow. You can tell that the feeder has triggered when all of the fish start darting around the display like crazy!

That's cool. Do you have any pics of this?

I have the Eheim Auto-feeder with the feeding station from Ocean Nutrition and it works great! i feed PE mysis every once in a while but all my fish eat spectrum 4 times a day. Mine all know when its going to go off since the lights and feeder have been on the same schedule for over 3 years. My foxface is always right there waiting for it! They all love it! best thing I ever bought!!

I use an auto feeder that feeds (3) different kinds of flake food twice a day. I placed the auto feeder so it dumps the flake food into the section of the sump where the return pump is so as the flake sinks it's introduced into the tank through the return lines. My fish go crazy when food starts coming out the return lines. I have a pair of Lyretail and a single Sunburst Anthias plus (3) Tangs so that's the main reason for feeding this way.

I'm surprised you don't end up with excess food in the sump... Do you keep a CUC in the sump? How do you keep the sump clean?

I guess I should drop some flakes into my sump and see what happens!

I have seen fish take dehydrated shrimp alot easier with a feeding ring than off the bat pellets and flake

The food only dumps where the return pump inlet is located so not much settles out on the sump bottom. The food that does settle out gets siphoned out once a month when I do a water change.
