Yet another obstacle. I thought I had it figured out and was going to do the 25g storage tank idea until I read this. I though making large amount of ro/di at a time was the key in cutting back on the amount of impurities, had no idea exposing it to air would defeat this purpose. Would covering the rubbermaid container with a lid be good enough? I go through about 5g a day.
Just think about it what is going in me reef water i have a twin Eheim Deltec skimmer and is in my living area .
I live in a dense populated area so fumes from cars and trucks get in to my reef
We cook almost every night and some of my cooking fumes get in to the reef ..(my old Etss use to die for hours after we cook)
I got to have a smoke after diner ;) it gets in to my reef .
I don't like to get in to other things like hair spray ,gas /oil heater wood stove / fire place.
So i don't think i have to worry to much about the amount of impurities it goes in to my tank from my RO/ DI - By the way my P04 is 0.013 and the NO3 is 0.3 with colorimeter.
And most of as don't have a good water reservoir to keep water for a week without getting it some what contaminated.

i agree we put more bad air in are reef tanks from normal living i still have not got a bad reading from a start up from my ro/di using a auto top off connected direct very good point zoom

Guys, get an in line TDS meter and get a reading of the product line before the top off opens.
Is the fact that we put smoke or cook into our tanks a justification to edd even more impurities?

I have 2 tds inline meters on my ro/di 1 going in reads 455 second 1 coming out reads 0 i have my top off connected between my prefilters and ro membrane. I was told by local water softner company that ro water is very corrosive if you ran ro water threw copper pipes in your house in less than a year you would have to replace all your plumbing so you would want to have your top off solenoid before the ro membrane. makes sense. plus this way it also shuts off my waste water.

I check my water when first come out from the canister when the ATO valve open just to be sure is ok- with conductivity meter- I got some contamination but it was very low so low that my regular TDS meter will not get any reading . I Also check my reservoir water (Food grade) after two days and it was the higher of the two- still not high enough to give any reading to my Hanna hand held TDS meter.. Now this is with almost new DI cartridge I will check again when it get about 2-3 months old...
