Avast ATO soldering a 8 minidin connector??

Hi guys,

So I have a bare wire ATO from avast, and I want to solder a 8 pin mini din connector onto it so I can easily plug directly into the Apex I/O port.

Got this email from avast when I asked them, I just don't really understand it.

Just wondered if anyone could translate to laymans terms? I have the MiniDin plug ready.

Thanks in advance.

Email from Avast:

On the cables we use it is the brown and black wires in the cable that match up to the ground and switch 1 pins. I would suggest verifying this with a multimeter on the apex before soldering it up. The pin out for the connection is documented in the apex manual.

Cannot help with the pin connections, but the bare wire ATO version is intended to be used with the Neptune breakout box that in turn plugs into the I/O port.

Yep.. Typically that would be used with the break out box (BOB) which is the best way to go as the BOB can be used for a number of things including float switches that tell you if your water level is too high or too low, shut skimmers off if the sump level is too high to prevent overflows etc. The BOB gives you 6 inputs for open/closed switches of any type. You can add garage door opener buttons to trigger feed cycles or turn on or of pumps, add water on the floor sensors, additional float switches etc.

That said, if you want to just wire that up and not use the extra ports of a BOB, then get this din plug and cut it in half.

Wiring of the din can be found in this thread. This also includes instructions to make your own break out box. You will connect one wire from the ATO to the (blue) ground wire from the din and the other to the red wire of the din cable which would make that ato SW1 within the Apex software. It doesn't matter which wire on the ATO that you connect to which. It is nothing more than an open/closed switch.

translation..
First..Go to apex site and RTFM
Second.. Solder wires to proper pins.
