Avast Marine Works "You Build" CS-1 Black Pearl Recirculating Protein Skimmer.

The new protein Skimmer has been in operation since Friday evening and I honestly couldn't be more happier. This is a photograph of the skimmate production from over the weekend. I think this is enough to show that the recirculating model is more then doing it's job. I'm going to need a skimmate locker before my swabbie!

Hey TH3C1SC0K1D, I am working on assmbling my own avast cs1 and had a quick question for you. Did the venturi in your kit fit snug on the pump inlet or did you glue it on? Mine seems pretty loose but the fittings for the recirc kit pretty much hold it on so before i do something stupid, like welding it on, i thought i would ask someone who has one. Thanks.

A you build for how much?

I'd get an already assembled, SC65, or SC150 shipped to your door.

My SC150 shipped was only $95, and it makes great skim on my 125

Does look good though, how much did that cost?

Nice job on the skimmer. How do you feel about the overall noise level?

I love mine, but it's loud as heck. I put some foam twin mattress pad in my stand ($9.77 at walmart) and that helped reduced the sound, but the skimmer is definitely not going to win an award for being quiet.

Mine is fairly quiet after a little moving around so it's not touching anything. I wouldn't trade mine for anything though, at 300.00 for a recirculating skimmer it can't be beat.

for sure. the value is amazing.

and with options like the swabbie and the davy jones locker, its unbeatable!

Any updates on how the skimmer is working. I am very interested in getting the CS-1 kit but I am concerned about the noise. I will be running it under the tank in a sump that is located in the main living space. I want to make sure it will be quiet even with the recirculation mod. Please let me know what you think.
