Awaiting Package

Richard can confirm this, but I believe there are 4 common hitchhiker crabs. Porcelain, Emerald, Stone and Gorilla. The latter two are primarily the ones that need to be observed for potential issues. Some people report no issues, while others report problems and therefore need to be removed from the system.

Ultimately, there is no guarantee with most marine creatures. For example, Yellow tangs in my experience are borderline reef safe. In fact they really should be characterized as with caution as they have a tendency to pick at clams, soft corals and LPS. Not to the point of trying to eat them, but they pick. However, I did have an aggressive juvenile yellow tang destroy a Maxima clam on me. That fish went straight back to the LFS, cursing it the whole ride there.

My stance on crabs is...if you see them doing something you don't like...relocation...porcelain crabs are the most docile of all...there are a few others....also...

Hey Kross , what are you using for lighting??? if I may ask

They are Radion pro XR30w PRO LED lighting on the left and right the middle is a XR15w. They are all tied to my Apex controller which is tied to the season table, so sun rises and set based on the season table. I adjusted the Season table to be based on the coral origin. I currently use Sun Rise, Morning, Mid Morning, Noon, Afternoon, Evening, Sunset profiles so it gives a nice transition throughout the day. I also have clouds, storms tied to it also, on a random interval.

Day 9 Evening Update

Day 9 Evening Update

Ammonia is around .25 and Nitrates are at .50. Tank looks healthy monitoring the activity shows no issues at this time.

Day 11 Morning Update

Day 11 Morning Update

Great news Amonia is still below .25 and Nitrates continue to drop.

Now I think I heard today popping. Having a hell of time thou determining if I did or it just water through my overflow. I do not see any dead snails or crabs in the tank.

Plan to post some updated pictures this weekend also.

Day 12

Day 12

Ammonia and Nitrate look good, but notice something today so I thought I would post. It seems one of my Sea Cucumber molted? It covered one of the Corals, is this something I should worry about?

they do that occasionally...normal stuff..shedding........but if a cuke is on the way out ...it starts with a small white spot on them...it slowly grows...turns to white looking snot stuff .......and they melt.

Cukes will also sometimes spit their guts, but recover from that all the time.

hey kross any more popping sounds??

No, and all my crabs, snails are humming along. I know i heard a pop but it was only like one ever 5 minutes. I did not have my overflow covers on at the time but it was hard to determine where it was. I am still watching and listening for it.

I am going to be taking some pictures of some crabs soon. They do not have black claws so I know they are not gorilla but not sure what they are.

I did a 15 Gallon water change today, my Ammonia was at 0 but my Nitrates were at almost 1.5.

cant wait to see your picks kross... I am finishing my cabinet stand today and placing my order with Richard on Friday for the package

Status Update:

The tank is doing very well, I had a small green algae problem but have it back under control. I do have a MANTIS SHRIMP running around. I saw it for the first time tonight about 2 inches long , purple. He actually came out when I was feeding the fish, I gave him a piece of shrimp grabbed it and ran back into a rock.

I also have a pistol shrimp who is spitting out tunnels all over the place not really bothering anyone, I also leave shrimp every other day at the tunnels and he pulls it in.

My question is on the Mantis do I need to worry about it, get it out now? I was going to try the mantis trap but wanted other people's take. He not bothering the fish, or the star fish, the urchins, or my gobie. I have seen a reduction in my crabs which I can just order more but wanted other people take on this.

I was very surprised to see it come out in full daylight.

I will take some new pictures also.
