WOW... I have witnessed certain SPS come in with those Hydriods and have seen differnet outcomes of them (generally hydroids die after a while), however I've NEVER seen pics even CLOSE to what you captured showing them on the coral... and that RB pic to boot, WOW... great stuff!!!

Thanks! In this case, the hydroids did not seem to harm the coral. It was a no-grower until I did the interceptor treatment for the red-bugs and it has taken off. You are correct, these hydroids did not last, I can not find any more on this coral.

Here's a few more nightmare inducing red bug macros for you. This is a poor frag of Greg Hiller's Aqua Delight that had the worst infestation density I have ever seen. I am amazed it survived. But it has now grown in to a nice little mini colony with no bugs! I will have to take a new macro of the clean coral.

Finally have some current updates!!!

April 12, 2009

First, I was delighted to find that my clownfish had eggs for the first time!
My big female ocellaris has been with me for almost 5 years now. Her little black misbar mate was just introduced to her a few months ago. This was tough to photo, the male grabs the edge of the anemone in his mouth and keeps covering the eggs up, even pressing the anemone tentacles against the rock so that it sticks.

INSANE PICS!!! What kinda Rig are you shooting with??

Thanks! It is a Canon Xti with a Sigma 150mm macro lens, 2x teleconverter, 36mm extenstion tube, and an off camera speedlite 550ex flash.

Thank you! I appreciate the kind words very much!

I loved my sohal tang, but he died of unknown causes while I was on vacation. My tank-sitter was very distraught and even kept the body in the freezer for me so that I could look at it when I got home and figure out what happened. She was so worried that I would blame her!!

You Forgot to show a shot from the Window I put in the Computer room so you can look at the tank as you work on these updates. ;-)

I know this an old thread. But your tank looks amazing!! What where your final lighting choices on the bulbs? It looks like you have had great growth with everything!!

WOW!!!! THIS NEEDS TO BE ON TANK OF THE MONTH!!! I feel you executed every part of reef keeping with a lot of DIY. Your photography is spectacular and I still go back to each picture and i can't even believe some of the shots you have! you have given me tons of ideas and i hope to have a reef as good as yours some day!!! I am also interested in the lighting. I am thinking of going MH on my 180 bow front but looking at your tank the coral look great and you have a much lower PGE. I'm all for that. My favorite shot is of the clown and the eggs. Again best tank thread i have every seen!!!

Thanks very much! shaneh, I am very flattered, what a nice post!

I am glad you bumped the thread, I need a kick in the pants sometimes to take some pictures.

The nice thing about T5 is the mix and match. I think I change my bulbs every time they are due for replacement. My color preference changes, but I find I settle on the most crisp white light I can get. I am using ATI bulbs right now, 1 actinic, 2 blue plus, 2 of the 11000K, and 1 of the pro color. I like it more at night than I do when there is sunlight in the room. Your viewing time and room lighting makes a big difference. (at least to me!)

I will work on some pictures. I don't think I will ever be TOTM, but I appreciate the compliments!

I got a chance to see this tank today, definitely the most gorgeous tank outside of a shop that I have ever seen. And seeing how it is all DIY, makes it that much better in my opinion.
