Baby Bandit Angel: You don't see this everyday

Karen Brittain did Genicanthus personatus at the Waikiki Aquarium... unfortunately the only one that grew to any size ended up being perhaps the most tragic case of carpet surfing in history! :sad1:

I almost dropped dead when I heard about that.:(

On a positive note eco trips to Midway are finally opened up again this year... VERY expensive... but still cheaper than a rebreather and some luck in the Main Hawaiian Islands...

very cool. Juvies are dropping now for the next 2 months or so. There are a few guys who should be catching them now, but 90% + will be straight to Japan and or Asia... US wont see one unless you know a collector.

I hope it does well for you! Good find. :)

Thought I would add a picture of a really small black tang just caught. The babies are showing up now. Get them while you can, or you will have to wait till next year. Regards, Tim

why the difference. Our economy sucks! Second the Japanese find fish as a very important part of their lives as the the rare few of us do. Lastly is supply and demand. Well it's more demand obviously because if there were more fish the price would drop. As a side note. I remember when i was about 10 years old. I had already been keeping fish for 5 years. My Dad took me into Chinatown and i went into 3 fish stores and then I really became fascinated. The biggest thing I remember is that every fish fresh and salt was named with their scientific name and became truly addicted. i have never been to hawaii, but have my plane tickets bought for this winter. Would love to meet to meet you guys that are down there and would really love for you to put me to work!!! I'm going to visit Les from Wet Pets. I live in a beautiful place but hawaii is my dream. I feel really bad for you guys with the way they are gouging you with the prices of food and other essentials. A gallon of milk 6.50!!!!!!!! Crazy. Regards, Tim

I sold this pair for $2500 and was offered $2000 for an individual....

WOW, I thought these were going in the range of 4-500 but I guess I was wrong

Either way, great fish. Cant wait to see more pics

$400-500 will get you one in the 4.5" range.

Spending thousands of dollars on a tiny bandit may not be a good idea. Although they do adapt quickly to captivity, bandits this small are very delicate and require constant attention to survive long term. For most hobbyists, it's better to go with one in the 3 to 5" range. If they've been properly handled and decompressed, they can handle the stress of shipping, holding, and acclimation much better than the babies.

I'd feel pretty guilty asking that much for a fish like this. It's normal for the juveniles to be worth more since they are hard to spot, but spending 5 times as much for a fish that's more difficult to keep is a little extreme. It's a free country, though.

I guess its the going rate for baby angels. The smaller the angel the higher the cost. I see the same thing with small Conspics. 2"-3" conspics are sometimes 2-3x the cost of a 5" speciman. Same thing goes for Interruptus Angels.
From what I have seen the few babies that have been sold recently have done fine. What is leading you to believe that they are poor shippers?
