Can you put a baby hippo tang in with a lager aggressive hippo? Will he show mercy because they are the same species or will that just make it worse? The baby is a little over an inch and the larger one is closer to 6"

I tried it last week in my 250g and couldn't believe that my hippo could get that aggressive. Its normally my purple that get real mean but since the small hippo was tiny he did not bother but the big hippo almost ate him. HE was going for the kill and luckly I was able to get the small hippo out.

Thank you for the first person experience I will definitely NOT do it.

You posted this less than an hour ago...yet didn't I just read a more current thread where you mention that you did this? Or are they in seperate tanks?? ;)

Just trying to keep it straight.

I have done this about a month ago with no problems, granted the tank is a 180 with plenty of hiding spots. The larger hippo chased him around for about an hour or so, then evidently lost interest in him. Now they live in peace.

Ya two separate tanks guess I should have mentioned that in the other post. The large blue is in a 125 and the smaller one is in a... well I don't feel like experiencing any more police brutality so I will leave it at that. :fun2:

So they swim together? Or does the little guy just avoid the bigger one?

LFS gives me all of their dead fish to feed my eels. One of the dead fish was a one inch hippo. I had a large hippo in my 150 and out of curiosity I placed the dead hippo on a feeder stick and placed it in the 150. The large hippo made a b-line for the carcass and absolutely destroyed it. Biting and tail swipes until it was an unrecognizable ball of white flesh. The aggression shown was unexpected but showed what an angry regal is a capable of. I wouldn't recommend the mix.
