Here are some FACTS about all clams and light.
IF they are wild caught and are browns, reds, and other grayish colors it means that they were farther away from the surface, as with squamosa clams, they are mostly browns due to how they live like 10- 30 meters (i think that right but i cant remember) so they do not get as much light reaching them so they have darker browner colors.
So as with all clams they further away from the light they were in when they were collected, the browner they will be, and the less light they will need to thrive, yes all clams are awsome under MH, but there is research going on about how squamys need light not as bright as MH, MH can stress some of the darker/browner colored clams.
If you are to try to have a Maxima, i stongly suggest to try to get one that has a little more brown in it and keep it up a little closer to the light after it settles. Like putting a small rock about 1/2 - 1 inch under the sand and putting the clam on the sand over the roc, that way it will adjust to the lights and then will attach to the rock, so you can move it up closer to the light.
I think that if you would like to keep clams in the future long term and such, look into T5 for if you upgrade. Thats what i am doing once i upgrade to a 75 gallon, i am getting the 6-54 watt T5 teklight.
HTH, and post pics once you get your clam!!!!!!
