I was checking out my rock work and out of a whole i saw 3 arms. Very small but has coloration, they are bash with little black stripes around them, a very light bash though. I have an adult serpent star in my tank. Is it possible that the serpent star made it, there is not mate for it in the tank. or is this something that resembles a serpent star thats smaller that fits this description? Just wondering, it won't come out of its hole so i can really see it. not even at night. any one got any ideas?

I don't know anything about the reproductive habits of your adult serpent star, but I understand that there are several species of miniature bristle stars known to hitch hike in on live rock etc. They are reputed to be beneficial scavengers and I seem to recall reading that some of the species give birth to live young, so you may see more of them.

You might find more information at project DIBs:

Thats a sponge brittle star, or some other kind of mini-brittle star. They are good, and fun to feed, they usually never leave the whole they are in and usually don't live long, but they are common hitchhikers.

I have tons of those little brittle stars that hitchhiked on my rock and some corals. All I ever see are the legs which can be up to 4 inches long or so. They are white or light colored with darker colored bands. I've never seen one's body, they are always inside holes.
