Back from Bermuda

Well I almost hate to say it but im back :(. Bermuda is such a nice place.
I am happy to say that my tank made it with little loss. My torch fell over and had 3 heads in the sand and they didnt make it but that was all that happened. I still have 4 more heads so they will regrow.

Ill post pics as soon as I get them developed. I took my 35mm with me and not my digital so ill have to get them converted. I didnt get to go scuba diving but did get to the aquarium. 140,000 gallon reef. I want one :). They didnt have much hard coral in it do to what the caretaker called white line desease. Ive never heard of it but she said it took out all their hard corals. The tanks main inhabitants are anemonies and gorgonia. Some gorgonias as large as 4' x 4'. Was still very impressive.

They had a 30,000 gallon circular tank with 20 or so 2 1/2' jacks. Nothing else in the tank just the jacks. Was still very nice.

The weather was good while in Bermuda so I got some really nice pics. I think you all will like them. I just hope they turn out.

Thanks for all the offers to help in case of emergency. Glad there wasnt any.

bummer on the torch. but good that there were no other losses. here is somthing i found on line disease..
"What is being referred to as "Line Disease" may be what we are now calling Pigmentation Response: it is not an infectious disease, but it seems to be a stress-related response to a number of things, included activities by boring vermetid snails, macroalgal abrasion, silt deposition abrasion and possibly certain fish bites. "

very interesting hope we dont see it in the future.

Welcome home Ryan. Losing a couple of torch heads is a small price to pay. Steve Lowe once went away for a couple of weeks and came home to a totally crashed system. Looking forward to seeing the pics!

I can't wait to see the pictures!!

Jerry when did this happen? Was it resent???

No, it was a couple of years ago. He was on a scuba diving trip in the South Pacific and while he was gone the engineer gobies created a rock slide and I think the auto top-off system failed . I may be confusing a couple of different episodes. It wasn't a complete wipe out but I know he lost his big colony of blue heteroxenia (I have a surviving descendent) and a few other things. His system is fully automated so he just needs someone to essentially feed the fish. My system is so low brow, whoever watches my tank needs to know how to monitor and manage all tank systems which ironically reduces the likelyhood of a total meltdown in my absence. The downside is its harder to find someone to babysit the tanks. Fortunately, I have a neighbor who has graciously done that. Were it not for him I couldn't travel.

Here are just a few of the pics of the aquarium. Not very good and only a few but the ones my mother took on her digital. Still waiting to get mine developed. Been a little busy but im working on it. 140,000 gallon tank.

Yo dude, except for the last photo, you could have lied and said you took these while scuba diving. I would have believed it. very cool Ryan! Thanks for sharing.

The tank is HUGE!!! If my pics turn out youll see a diver in the tank. She(the diver) got i while I was there and hand fed a 10' long morey eel. As well as a few other fish that came next to her to be fed. I didnt ask them the size of the tank but it was at least 8' tall and 12' wide and id say about 12' deep but was way to deep to see all the way to the back of it. The shark would go someplece at times so you couldnt even see it. The baracuda is at least 5' long. and the shark I think was 4 1/2 foot. Im am affraid my pics wont come out but im keeping my fingures crossed. If they do, they will make the above pics look bad.
