Not to be a wise guy but why would you not protect your thousands(assuming) dollars worth of investments with anything less than a generator? For 5-7 hundred dollars you could power your tank and at least part of your house IE air conditioning or furnace whichever is needed at that time of year. Thats a pretty cheap failsafe. Maybe have the battery back up for the time it takes you to get home in an outage.

You wouldnt be able to run your house off one but even one of the hand held sized ones would power a tank a larger one would run a tank and a furnace. You can wire them into your breaker box just make sure to power off the main breaker to protect lineman and your generator. When they are fixing the lines they send a surge through them that will disable any power source backfeeding into the lines. During an outage just power off all unnecessary breakers. Hope that helps.
