bacteria? Algae? What is this stuff??

help!

I have this layer of golden / brown / yellow - ish goop stuff. Its almost like they are eggs of some sort because i can see little particles clinging onto the side of my tank and moving with the current. When i swirl my finger above the sand (where the UO is) it easily comes up. It looks terrible and there are clear / dirty spots all over my sand. Is this temporary or what? Good/bad? help! Thanks!

Update: My Chromies are slowly picking off and eating this stuff from the back side of my tank. fyi

How old is your tank, and WELCOME by the way. Is hard to say w/o pics but if tank is pretty new, then a diatom bloom is likely. If it is a diatom bloom, then not to worry, it is temporary and will pass, we all go through it--next you can look forward to the cyanobacteria(red hair algae) and hair algae bloom. yeah! Good luck and happy reefing to ya.

Will i need to plan for Cyanobacteria and get rid of it when it comes? Or is it good I think it is Diatoms because i hear people mention them a lot but ive never seen them. Ill try and have pics up today
