BAD BAD Few DAYs FOR ME!!!!!!!

Well today sucked for me. I can home from the fire station this morning to find both my Tunze's screaming at me. My 6100 had a constant high pitched tone at the controller and was barely pumping any water. I took it apart and cleaned it with a nice 2 day Vinegar bath but No luck same problem when I put it back together. My 6200 had a constant beeping noise. When I went to look at that one I found that the impeller had snapped in half. So I am now out 2 pump that I really need right now for water flow in my tank. Anyone know what could have caused this or if I just need new impellers?????? Also I am sooooooooooo bummed my baby male stingray died on me to the other day. I am not sure what happened to him. He was eating fine the night before but was dead in the morning. I cut the food up smaller but I wonder if he could have choked or something. My female one is doing fine. I am going to replace him but what a bummer he was sooooo cool. Anyways I just needed to vent to someone on here who could relate and maybe get some insight on these Tunze's. Ben

I can't relate to your pumps, but I am having problems with the tunze skimmer I got. Stupid thing hasn't produced any foam :( I should have stuck with remoras :(

Sorry about your baby stingray too. What a huge shame. When it rains it pours:eek:

Ben, post in the Tunze forum here if you haven't already. They are very responsive with tech support issues in the forum. Also if you are in need of extra flow immediatly you can barrow my 6100 x 6000 until your pumps are back up. Just PM me and we can work it out.

Hey thanks so much for offering your pumps. I am running out to Salty to try and pick up new impellers. I will let you know. Ben

I was having the same problems. Their recommendations in regards to the cleaning were right on the money:

I initilally used my pumps in an alternating fashion where they would take turns going off and on. Evidentally it's better for them to "pulse" instead, as that way they always have flow going through them and are less likely to clog.

I also had an impeller bust on me in the same fashion. It was under warranty, so I sent it back to Tunze where they rebuilt it and sent it back.

Well I was able to get my 6200 back up and running but not my 6100 even with a new impeller. Now I have to send it back to Tunze so this royaly sucks. Maybe I need to get a backup for the future.

Ben, I had the same problem after the feed mode was over. The thing screamed at me so I took it apart and cleaned it with vinigar and that fixed it. I hope its just the impellers.big bummer! My problem was too much kalk too fast had caked up the pumps.

Well !!@#$%&@!!

I jinxed myself. Guess what came on after feed mode was over today. Yup.....the I don't want to come back on alarm.
:mad2:

sorry to hear about your Ray, did it have any skin discoloration on either its top or bottom side ? what did you feed it the night before and what do you normally feed it ? how big a tank was it in ? reason I ask I have 2 rays
thanks

The 6100 has a brand new impeller and was cleaned but still wont run. So not sure what else to do but replace it.

If that upper bearing, O-ring, and the well are all clean I would send it off to Roger. Had a problem with my wave box about 2 months ago, and he got it back to me really quick.

Does the new impeller look just like the old one? With the brakes?

Hey Maggie

I don't recall him having any discoloration to him. I usually feed them at night and I have been feeding them 2-3 pieces of Krill each night. So not really sure what happened. I have never seen my fish nip at them but who knows what happens at night. My tank is 300 gallons so I dont think that was a problem. I really dont have a sand bed for them. I have a mix sand underneath and finely crushed coral on top but they seemed to be able to bury themselves easy enough. HMMMMMMMMM

Hey Scott I sent the Tunze out to Roger this morning so it's in his hands now. I think it was the older style impeller but I replaced the entire impeller setup including o-rings and all, and still had no luck. So we'll see what he says. I think I am going to try and pick up a backup one now. That was kinda scary having 2 outta 3 go down and not have much flow at all in my tank. Hopefully there will be some deals at MACNA!!!!!!
