I think I have some kind of low-grade intestinal parasite infection going on. In the last year I've lost a couple fish to mysterious (to me anyway) circumstances: months apart, good appetite, no lesions or anything. The only symptom has been some stringy poo so I've dosed prazi a few times, and after one death I ran a 2-week course of metro+focus. Then everything seems fine for a long time until another death out of nowhere. QT includes prazi and sometimes metro. It seems to affect smaller fish more, lost a blenny, goby, and chalk bass; kole tang engineer goby and wrasse ok.
When they die they just have one bad day of sulking and then they go belly up. Sometimes their scales are poking out a little more than normal, and one had a red spot that may or may not have happened after death. I cut them open and there are some white sections in the intestines, except for one that it's stomach was kinda exploded - it looked like something chewed it's way out. But it's not like they have distended bellies before they die, or are full of little worms, iirc one had a single large worm in its gut.
Yesterday my wrasse pooed an absolutely astonishing thing. He stole all the nori off the tang clip and then produced a huge white sheet. I fished it out and it was over an inch across like a rolled up white film. This happened a few months ago before I did a round of metro+focus.
I'm ready to look into treating the survivors in a hospital tank, to get this settled. But I haven't found a conclusive answer on how to best do that. Thanks in advance for any advice you all have.
