Bahamas Plumbing question

What I am trying to accomplish is a dual feed system to my 125 gallon salt tank. I live on the water in the Bahamas and want to be able to run a open loop to the ocean. Because of the HIGH cost of power down here I dont want to run my Iwaki 100 24 hours a day on a open loop so I was thinking of using a closed system through my sump with a mag and some powerheads, but for about 1 hour a day run the iwaki on the open loop to have a daily flush. Anyone have any plumbing ideas to make this work?

Thanks for your help.

I was thinking that I should use an auto waterchange system but rather than having a bucket of water i just go to the ocean. Also if I have this setup, do I still need to run the protein skimmer or can I just keep fresh water in there? Has no one ever done this besides the big aquariums

You actually live on the water, as in your tank ia above the ocean? If so, you can tell everyone you use the largest skimmer, calcium reactor, and sump in the world.

Can we see a picture of your ocean in your yard?

If your water isn't polluted I don't see why even a small steady flow of ocean water to your tank(like 10G/day, 300G/month) wouldn't be enough to replenish your tank water eliminating the power needed for a skimmer or calc reactor.

The iwaki 100 only draws 400 KWH vs 500 KWH for your lighting, not that much power.

Thats good to know chinaman. I have a good source that says the water is of very good quality. well I am still trying to figure out the best system to run both a closed loop and a open loop for an hour or so a day.
