Bali scuba and snorkel photos

Hi, I am new to this forum and just getting back into salt water. I am in the process of setting up a 12g nano. Figured I would share some photos from a recent trip to Bali Indonesia. Enjoy, there are some pretty cool specimens in these photos.

Very rare to see pics of your coral in your tank in the ocean!!!!
Wish more people took these pics of dive trips because first time I ever seen Xenia in wild real funny but we can't get rid of xenia for free in takes but strange it's not over popular coral in the wild? I dive alot and these pics are what I die to see!!!

Thanks guys...it was an amazing trip! What even made it even better is the snorkeling was literally out the backdoor of the villa we rented.

Kind of a sad story in fact. We stayed in a quiet part of Bail on the east coast. The town is called Candidasa. There used to be a beach in the town but now it is all sea walls. During a construction boom 20+ years ago the locals would use dynamite to blow of the reefs for the limestone. Destroying the natural protection for the beaches led to them washing away.

The reef seems to be making a strong comeback. I literally snorkeled for a couple of hours a day.

Oh, don't worry jarrett shark, there was plenty of xenia in this body of water!

Forgot to ask, does anyone know what species of fish are in the cave in the 4th to last photo? I have never seen them before in all my underwater adventures.

Those look like Glassy Sweepers. Typically they are only out at night, and found hiding out in spots like that cave during the day. Quite a few species of Glassy Sweepers that all look very much alike, so I'd actually need to have them in hand to ID them better than just the common name.

Thanks Bill, they sure do look like glassy sweepers!! I am not a night dive guy which explains why I have never seen them before.

Most of the pics I posted were "just" snorkeling. The darker photos (obviously deeper) were at the USS Liberty in Tulamben. Interesting story about this wreck dive...google if you care to know. Long story short, it was an American cargo ship that was torpedoed during the war in 1942 by the Japanese. It was brought to shore where it sat for over 20 years until a volcano eruption in the mid 60s swept it out to sea a few hundred yards...thus it only sits in 80-120 feet of water.

We stayed in this villa (I want to go back yesterday!!), the water off the villa is the Lompoc straight.

I took this picture through my polarized sunglasses. You see the reef. The water was no deeper then 15 feet.

Ha, I was in Candidasa in July for my honeymoon. Dove in Tulamben and PadangBai. I didn't know that story about the reefs at Candidasa, sad stuff. It did look like there was lots of life there, though we didn't go into the water in that area.
