Looking to purchase a gold banded shrimp however I have no experience keeping one personally and have some concerns. Is it likely to try to kill my favorite Halloween hermit crab? Will banded shrimp cause problems for clams? I'm not worried about it going after my fish but should I be worried about a dwarf angel going after the shrimp?

I had one for several years and I couldn't add any small fish. They would just disappear and he seemed to be the only possible one. Mine didn't bother any of my clams, hermits, cleaner shrimp or any other inverts, just small fish. My flame angel didn't bother it either.

I wouldn't trust it around any smaller fish of equal or less size, arrow crabs, and I heard they go after snails. Halloween hermits are little bulldozers and shouldn't be harmed IMO.

Thank you falconut and calappidae, seems I shouldn't be worried about what I was concerned with. I was honestly expecting horror stories lol

My regular banded shrimp is gigantic and hasn't touched a thing. He is one of my favorite creatures in the tank.

I too just put a BCS in mine tank. She (?) hasn't bothered my 2 starfish, emerald crab, blue hermits snails or fish. I keep her well fed and she seems happy.

I have a bonded pair in my tank and I enjoy watching them share food with one another and wandering the tank together. They have not killed my hermits, snails or fish or my clam. Get one and enjoy, tho they usually don't become more active till night time.

Finally picked up the cbs today. Have it acclimating now. I snagged a small one so less likely to have developed any bad habits.

What are your first impressions of your arrow crab so far?

The cbs has settle in and found a home completely out of sight lol. My angel thought he was a cleaner shrimp though. That was cleared up pretty quickly. Also I did figure out the shrimp goes crazy for cyclop-eeze.

CBS actually is a type of cleaner shrimp. But unlike the other cleaners, the CBS is more of a mad doctor, on rare occasions, killing it's patients.

Crabs in general I don't trust, I've lost several fish to emeralds and decorators, an arrow crab is only a major upgrade from the two as far as a killing machine.. I'm figuring there is more then enough to distract him for now and I got him really small.. so for now let him kill the bristleworms in my 10g then.. then kill them in the 125g.. then he can kill them in any rock I put in the fuge and stay there. I just built the fuge today and specifically designed it special for him :)

But.. maybe he'll be nice and behave.. if that's the case later on I might leave him in the DT..

I got more of a scare of bristleworms when I heard how big and distructive they get.. It's a lot easier to catch and manage an arrow crab then 3' bristleworms later on..

Ohh and I also had a pair of golden CBS in another tank and added a baby french angel and the killed and ate it immediately...I think its safe to say they got the boot

I don't trust CBS period, in the times I've kept them, caused more havoc with tankmates than doing good in the tank.

Killed fish, lots of inverts and other skunk / blood red cleaner shrimps.
