Well after having our Bandit Angel in quarantine for just over 5 weeks, I finally found some prepared food he likes!
From the beginning I was having the toughest time getting him to eat.
The only foods he would 100% eat were the following:
- Live sponges
- Laver (Dry type of nori)
- Fresh Little Neck Clams
- Fresh Mussels
I have tried the following prepared foods and none were really eaten. Would just eat and spit right out:
- New Life Spectrum Pellets (Small, Large and Thera A)
- Ocean Nutrition Flakes (Formula 1, Formula 2 and Prime Reef)
- Spirulina 20 Flakes
- Frozen Mysis (Hikari and PE)
- Hikari Frozen Brine
- Frozen Rods Food (Original, Fish Only, Predator, Plankton, Fish Eggs, Herbivore and Seaweed)
- Doc's Eco Eggs
- Larry's Reef Frenzy Frozen (Reef Frenzy and Fish Frenzy)
- Mega Marine Angel Frozen
I was feeling pretty bad about moving him over to the acclimation box today or tomorrow, since he really hasn't eaten anything prepared.
Yesterday I had the idea of using the only food I had that I hadn't tried yet.
I had bought some Hikari Frozen Blood Worms about a year ago to try to get a Copperbanded Butterfly eating in QT. He didn't like them, I then tried them in the display and nobody liked them.
I first tried yesterday and thought I might have seen the Bandit eat one or two. So today I decided to try again. Note each time I add a few drops of Selcon and Vitachem, then let thaw a bit. I then crush up with a fork and add a little water and mix it up. Then dump into the tank.
Each morning a feed a clam or mussel, then remove at lunch time. I then add any medicine I'm using and feed prepared foods.
Today when I added the Blood Worms the Bandit went after every single one and gulped them down. 0 spitting. I was shocked how quickly he ate them. Also since about 3 hours early he was given a full little neck clam that was cleaned out.
I kind of wish I would have tried the Blood Worms earlier, but they seem like a winner. Makes me feed better about adding the Bandit to the display. I knew he would eat the Laver (nori) and pick at things, but after that I didn't know what to offer him prepared wise.
If anyone's having issues with their Bandits, give this a shot. I sure have tried pretty much everything else![Smile :) :)](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png)
BTW: The Bandit is around 3".
