Bandit Angel Prepared Food Crack Finally Found!!!

Well after having our Bandit Angel in quarantine for just over 5 weeks, I finally found some prepared food he likes!

From the beginning I was having the toughest time getting him to eat.

The only foods he would 100% eat were the following:
- Live sponges
- Laver (Dry type of nori)
- Fresh Little Neck Clams
- Fresh Mussels

I have tried the following prepared foods and none were really eaten. Would just eat and spit right out:
- New Life Spectrum Pellets (Small, Large and Thera A)
- Ocean Nutrition Flakes (Formula 1, Formula 2 and Prime Reef)
- Spirulina 20 Flakes
- Frozen Mysis (Hikari and PE)
- Hikari Frozen Brine
- Frozen Rods Food (Original, Fish Only, Predator, Plankton, Fish Eggs, Herbivore and Seaweed)
- Doc's Eco Eggs
- Larry's Reef Frenzy Frozen (Reef Frenzy and Fish Frenzy)
- Mega Marine Angel Frozen

I was feeling pretty bad about moving him over to the acclimation box today or tomorrow, since he really hasn't eaten anything prepared.

Yesterday I had the idea of using the only food I had that I hadn't tried yet.

I had bought some Hikari Frozen Blood Worms about a year ago to try to get a Copperbanded Butterfly eating in QT. He didn't like them, I then tried them in the display and nobody liked them.

I first tried yesterday and thought I might have seen the Bandit eat one or two. So today I decided to try again. Note each time I add a few drops of Selcon and Vitachem, then let thaw a bit. I then crush up with a fork and add a little water and mix it up. Then dump into the tank.

Each morning a feed a clam or mussel, then remove at lunch time. I then add any medicine I'm using and feed prepared foods.

Today when I added the Blood Worms the Bandit went after every single one and gulped them down. 0 spitting. I was shocked how quickly he ate them. Also since about 3 hours early he was given a full little neck clam that was cleaned out.

I kind of wish I would have tried the Blood Worms earlier, but they seem like a winner. Makes me feed better about adding the Bandit to the display. I knew he would eat the Laver (nori) and pick at things, but after that I didn't know what to offer him prepared wise.

If anyone's having issues with their Bandits, give this a shot. I sure have tried pretty much everything else :)

BTW: The Bandit is around 3".

Good to hear Peter, I know it can be stressful when a fish like that isn't eating!

Yeah I wasn't worried about his weight with all the fresh food. Just will be easy to not get enough food when not an aggressive eat with all the pigs in the display.

At least I know they'll leave the blood worms alone when they hit the water, leaving food for the Bandit.

It's been a fun QT round...

- 1 Crescent Tail Wrasse showed up DOA.

- Tiny Potter's Angel wasted away. I think I was too worried about the Bandit eating, that I didn't pay attention to the Potter's. It was tiny though.

- Both Hawaiian Cleaners passed away. I think the other Crescent Tail Wrasse killed one. The other I'm not sure on. Was eating, no signs of anything. Maybe needed more frequent feedings or more oxygen...

- CBB is getting harassed in the display by the Black and Yellow Tangs, after being in an acclimation box.

- Crescent Tail Wrasse was on the dinner meal for the Crosshatches. He finally found a good hiding place and is cautious when the Triggers are around.

FUN!

My wife isn't too happy with murder tank right now :headwallblue:

... In reality it was really circumstantial issues...

- Hawaiian Cleaners seem to be impossible to keep.
- Potter's are tough to keep, especially smaller ones.
- CBBs are shy and Zebrasoma's are known aggressors to them.
- The Crescent Tail Wrasse is tiny, the Triggers are big...

We all go thru it at some point... I just lost a false Personifer pair and a scribbled in QT to what I suspect was velvet

Ah that stinks man :(

What's your QT procedure?

I've switched back to:
- Get eating.
- 35-40 days of ParaGuard everyday.
- 3 rounds of Prazi during spaced 6 days apart with a water change on day 3.
