Bangaii holding

My bangaii has been holding for 16 days now. (1st time) I am planning on raising the fry and have everything I need but not sure there is going to be any way to catch him. He is extremelly shy and the last few days I have only seen him a couple of times. I will try to catch him at night but doubt he will be out. My tank is an SPS so moving around the rock won't happen. Should I put in an urchin and hope when he releases the fry go to that? Any suggestions would be great.

I can't think of anything better than your urchin idea. The male should release them into the urchin if it is available. The problem may be high flow in your sps tank, and predators getting a mouthfull before you find the little guys.

I have not tried to rear any in isolated tanks. You could try the urchin, but I am skeptical as the fry eventually come out of the urchin in order to catch food...at that point they will be fair game for other fish in the tank. They are pretty good bit sized meals for the first month or so.

I am assuming you have high flow for your SPS tank...they wont make it...you need to catch him out!

I did the night route...use a flashlight to blind him..and snag him...usually works pretty well...try not to chase around too much...the gasping can cause them to swallow to ditch the eggs...If he does though just save the eggs...continue to catch...and reunite them...I have had them take the eggs back in after the catch their breath.

Mine regularly spawn, but I never see the babies. I have read that the urchin trick works for some people, but there are 3 in my tank and have never had any luck. If you do want to capture the male, I can say that the night trick works well. If the lights have been off for awhile (and the room is dark), and then I turn on the lights, my cardnals are easy to catch without them stressing much at all.
