Hi all,
I have a bangaii cardinal in serious trouble. She is part of a mated pair.
Yesterday I noticed her lower jaw was swelling, mouth gaping open slightly, but eating as normal. I read that the swelling could be caused by either injury, parasite or jaw hyper extension (see a previous thread ).
I had a feeling the initial swelling was due to injury and would heal on its own, but today while eating, her jaw split down the center and she started flailing around in pain :sad1: she is flailing less now, and still interacts with the male in the tank and shows a lot of energy, but I'm too afraid to try feeding the pair again.
I've read that good water quality and time is the safest bet for treating an injury, while looking out for secondary infection. Any idea how this happened or what's going on? Does the fresh wound in the pic appear infected and in need of antibiotic treatment? Should I still try feeding the pair?
Thank you.
