humidity concerns in the basement.... how will that be dealt with.. also i would assume installing back up generators on large scale ?

humidity will be no problem at all. there will be 4 air exchangers in the house along with an exhaust fan in the fish room. the floor right behind the tank will have plastic grating over it. it will have all the flow it needs from down stairs to upstairs. the floor right behind the tank will be removable for installing other equipment or adding new equipment that cant fit through the door down stairs. ;) trust me bill had thought about this one a lot. I think bill has spent the last year and a half designing this house.

i did the same thing... when i built my house.. just at a fraction though of what bil is doing... it took up so much of my time i almost got burnt out on it... actually i did at the end.. the beging was exciting getting things in place then set backs ect... but i only did a 600 gallon reef buitlt into the wall with mechanical room downstairs and tank with own room upstairs.. man oh man... cant wait to see it .. kepp the pics coming...

surge

surge

i would really like to know more about the surg that bill is going to use you said the he made it so there is no bubbles like to make a small one for a 90 gal
thanks

Very cool thread. I had no idea Bill Wann had been banned. He posted some fun OT stuff about cars in my DIY tank thread.

I just thought it was very awesome to have the "ultimate" DIY-er throw a small-fish like me some props. I'm bummed that he got booted, but I'm glad Spazz is taking time to keep this project documented.

Thx Spazz.

i will try to find the discription of it somewhere here on reef central. i know he had a detailed description of its design. i can say it works great by the way the fish are pushed around in the tank. ha ha ha they will hover right infront of the pipe and wait for it to fire. its funny to see it. he even has one fish that goes up the tube so he can get blasted out into the tank. crazy fish. but they love to play in the flow. there own personal water park. ha ha ha ha

sorry guys there is no new pics. they have been ahving bad weather down there and the construction is slowing down because of it. but never fear the pics will be here real soon.

All you have to do is have a valve that will shut off the flow from the surge tank before it gets empty.

This would be either an electric, or air actuated valve with a timer.

Bill had a thread about his current one.

thanks mrbiggs. i'm building a 120"x30"x30" plywood tank and want to add a surge device.

keep up the good work bill and spazz!

So is Bill making an even larger Schuran Clone? They do make them larger if he wants to save time...
schuran2004a.jpg

just look at that baby...

would you pay over $10,000 for that ca reactor? bill wont. that is why he is building his own. much cheaper and built bills way.

10K for that?!?! I guess if you had that much money and no DIY skills then maybe... However for most of us we can make something really large that works just as well for much less $$$$

would this thing be too big for my 75?

That IS your 75g...lol. Just look at that froth of CO2 at the top... wow. I would love to see someone make (Id do it myself, but have no reason to) a Deltec fluidized reactor that size.

rowaphos is a very dangerous product to use in an aquarium. it has some very nasty affects to corals. energy has used it in his aquarium and bill has also. but the side affects are not worth it. energy lost alot of corals because of using rowaphos in his system. bill had problems too. i wouldnt use it at all. not woth the chance of wipping the entire tank out with the stuff. there is alot safer ways to get rid of phosphates with out killing the corals. i have used the salphert phosphate eliminator with good sucess. it make phosphates skimmable. you just have to stick with the dosing regiment to eliminate all the phosphates in the rock work.

Um, I meant their fluidized calcium reactors. They boast the highest output dkh of any reactor. The last one I took a reading on the output was at 80! As is, I think their largest PF1001 is a 3' tall 8" diameter one with an eheim 1260 pump that keeps the media fluidized. If someone used a 12" or even 18" cylinder that was 6' tall, with a similar sized pump (1300gph for a 12" cylinder, 3000gph for a 18" diameter), you could do some serious damage. And you could even incorporate the bubble collection/recirculation system of the Schurans that I know Bill is so fond of.
