I can survive the periods of no updates as long as you promise not to forget about us. We want to see this thing!

Does he have a signup sheet for volunteers to clean the thing yet? If so, put me on it.

as soon as i get pics i will post what i can. i live in minneapolis and bill lives in chicago. so icant just swing by and take pics. and bill is getting slammed at work right now. project wil end up taking a year to complete. so there will be times of no new progress on the tank. this will be because the contractor needs to work on other parts of the house.

bah.. finish the tank and then build the house around it.. priorities man. ;)

I agree only licensed divers.

I've got my C card in hand, so when do i start? :D

I would assume only licensed divers are allowed to clean in... ;-) (boot me to the top of the list)

sorry guys thats not going to happen. well unless you were to offer half your fish and corals to bill then he might let you dive the tank to mount the corals.

im sure he will be diving the tank almost every day for the next year! there is alot of corals to mount in there. he already has the specal dive mask for extended cleaning of maintaince of the tank. its a full mask with an airhose supply.

He should really consider getting one of those air pumps that supply air to a regulator (I don't remember what they are called). They have a motor mounted on a rubber raft (which he would obviously want to keep outside). Otherwise it might be difficult maneuvering around that tank with full scuba gear.

Or perhaps he could get one of those mini-tanks and (please don't flame me) trim it down by not using a secondary regulator. Honestly, do you really need a secondary regulator in 8' of water?!? If something happens, just stand up. You also don't need the BCD, just some weights. Just strip it down as much as possible.

Sounds like fun... I volunteer to help out.

that is basicly what he is goingto do. just a mask, regulator and what ever weights he needs to hold him down in the tank. its going to be very basic and easy. the nice part about that is it will make a person feel more at home with the fish and corals.

you never know though, if bill is in the tank as much as i think he will be, he might just grow gills and not need a mask.

yeah, the more I thought about it... a small scuba tank might be easier than dealing with a hose. I used one for cleaning a pool and it worked well, but I didn't have to worry about the hose getting caught on corals.

Heck, with this guy's evident income, perhaps a small re-breather... no bubbles, less stress on tank-mates, stay down for hours...

I use a small 19 CU FT. Pony bottle for training in the pool and it works really well. I have a small harness that attaches it to my body with a wireless transmitter that sends the tank info to my Oceanic Atom wrist watch, thus allowimg me to dive freely with hardly any extra gear weight and only one hose going to the regulator. I would much rather go with a bottle then have a hose tangle up or knock some corals down and you can always fill the pony from a larger tank and at 8FT deep he can be down there for a while on a pony.

that would be fun to watch, but I think I'd be in a lot of trouble with the girlie if I ever tried a system like this, kudo's tho, this thread is still looking aweseome, wish it wouldn't take a month to get new photos

sorry it cant be helped. the contractors are working 6 days a week when the weather permits. there was so much rain there that the ground is nothing but a mud pit. once they get the walls up then the tank should get some more attention. i had siad this would take a year to complete. its only the second month of the build. only 10 months or so to go before tis finnished and ready for fish and corals.

maybe.
