BAR Regional Frag Swap - February 10, 2007

Swap is for propagating and sharing corals, not really for signing up to buy corals.

We're trying to refocus our club on its mission of propagation and coral husbandry. So please just bring at least 3 strains of coral to join the swap!

MARS members are certainly welcome! Wouldn't be the same without you guys :)

Hey Norman, last year there was the "bonus round" which also incorporated the preregistered rare stuff. Have you guys decided to do away with the "bonus" aspect (for folks who bring in 10+ frags) this year and focus only on the rare items? Also, any idea on whether there will be a raffle again this year? Thanks ...

Hi Robin,

We're doing a simplified format for Rares, similar to what we've had in other swaps.

Bring 2 or more Rares, and you get to pick in the Rare group for the entire swap. Rare picks at both ends of the sequence as we go up and down the picking groups.

We'll start a thread on here for pre-qualifying frags.

Yes, we're definately putting together a nice raffle for the swap :)

Should be fun!

Propagate, share, diversify!

So do we just bring our frags and show up? There is no sign up or something of the sort? Thanks in advance,

Paul

Dswong01 will be working with your club(s) BOD on membership rosters and RSVP's.

You do need to show up between 11:00-12:30 that day to get your name verified against the membership lists, and to check-in your frags. We will have helpers to receive the frags and get them organized onto the picking area tables.

I'll start a "Who's going to the BAR swap?" thread here, but not everybody replies or even reads the forums.

Current club rosters have been requested from MARS,CVR,NVR,RARE and SEABAY. Your name must be on the list as current active member to participate. It is up to individual club to insure they submit accurate rosters.

Paul:

Step 1: be one on one of the clubs mentioned, either BAR or one that dswong01 mentions.

Step 2: go to http://www.bareefers.org/discussion/index.php?topic=1555.0 and see post #1 for a general run down

Step 3: If you still don't understand, post a message and someone will fill you in. If you are part of another club make sure someone knows you're coming, since we need to know if you are infact a member of the club. Bring your corals, check in on the day of the event to get a name tag and you're good to go.

While RSVPing is not absolutely necessary, it is something we ask people to do simply to get a headcount of those coming. Since we have hired a BBQ crew to sell food they like to know how many people to prepare for so they don't have a huge amount of leftovers. That and there is a limit to how many can be in the conference room at ASAP.

Thanks for the helping the mentally challenged (me) to understand. Looking forward to it. Is kenya tree considered rare?? :D

Maybe in some tanks! :)

It's a nice easy to grow one. If I have room, I like to keep some around to give to people who are just starting out. Neat to have a nice big branchy one.

See you at the swap!

Btw, here's an old pic of a softie tank that I took down recently. Easy to grow kenya, xenia, mushrooms, etc. All under Home Depot shop lights with cheapie Phillips daylight tubes, and a couple actinics. Tubes were normal output, but overdriven.

Here's a pic of a few of those pieces that I put temporarily into a new prop tank recently.

So if we're MARS members planning on coming do we need to pay anything or rsvp, or do we just show up with our MARS cards. If I can even find mine.

Best would be if the MARS folks(and other clubs) could take a rough head count and let us know about how many to expect.

As far as participating in the swap, bring your frags, make sure your name is on the membership list that your club BOD is providing to Dswong01, and you should be good to go!

If you're a newbie, your fellow MARS members pretty much know the routine :)

If you don't want to swap, you can still just come and hang out with everybody and get in on the raffle.
