Barebottom tank sump questions

So I've decided to go bare bottom on my sps build soon to come lol.
I can't find info on the sump. I have a 3 section sump and the middle section I was thinking of putting in live sand.
Is there any benifits to adding sand or and I just waiting time and effort

My tank is BB and I just made my sump into a two compartment sump with a ATO built into it doubt the sand will have a benefit and can cause a mess I would skip it just me tho

Is there a specific reason to why you would want "Live" sand in your sump? Maybe something you are trying to achieve with it?

From my point of view, the reason to go BB was to not have a lot of poo and detritus an organic matter trapped in a sandbed but rather export it using skimmer and siphon.

So why collect that poo and detritus and organic matter in a sandbed in the sump? Defeats the whole purpose.

Also, Live Sand. Is it ever really Live or is it just sand with lots of dead organic matter in it? I think you need to do as PaulB and go to the beach and collect your own sand for it to be more then a organics import.

With that said, sand has benefits. It can act as a refugium. It can act as a bacterial buffer. It can nitrify and if it is deep enough it can denitrify. But if that is what you want then BB is not the philosophy to go with it imho.

We'll this is my first time going with this setup and and really havnt found if it would help with my cycle and keeping things in loins. I won't be adding sand now. Also I'm gonna be going with 100% new Fiji premium live rock what's the best was to seed it

I guess I should have stated it's all dry rock to avoid pests ahat would be the best way to get my cycle going?!? I don't wanna buy live rock would I be able to just add some water from a fellow reefers tank?!?

This process while being the best in regards to pests takes the longest but worth it in the end.
