Asternia star, I leave mine be, some destroy everyone they see. They can become an issue and grow to plague proportions in our tanks. They have yet to start eating my corals. I have a couple the size of a quarter!

Asterina star. Up to you. I don't like them. They breed prolifically in most tanks and become pests. I would remove it ASAP. Many people like them though and consider them detritovores, which they are, but they just grow in significant numbers and there are no natural predators that you would normally have (you can rent aharlequin shrimp from LFS maybe).

Thanks Homer,
I'll leave him be then.

11 Months today

11 Months today

Hi All,
Well my tank is now 11 months old. It sure has changed a lot from day one.
Just added a couple upgrades a little time patience and a couple of dollars.
I sure think it was worth effort.
ReefWreak check out the photo of my mini max anemone its doing great.

Looks great Barry!!

Nice selection of colors, and those sun corals sure do stand out.

Been thinking about a mini max as opposed to an BTA, but it moving about still has me a little worried for my corals.

Homer I have had my mini max for three weeks and it has not moved from the spot it pick the first day. From what I have read once they pick a spot they
stay put. (I hope).....

Looking great, and the anemone is beautiful. I'm glad it's staying put. Just make sure not to alter flow or lighting too much to provoke it moving.

At this point, even if I wanted one, I don't have the room. I'm basically wall to wall corals right now, and need to trim back some A. Formosa that's growing into another coral as is. But I'm glad yours is doing well, and it's beautiful!

BFS mini Carbon/GFO reactor

BFS mini Carbon/GFO reactor

Hi All,
Have a question, Friday is water change day and I also changed
the GFO and Carbon in my reactor. When changing the reactor I made sure
it was CLEAN. Well after starting the reactor back up it is not totaling filling
with water?!?!. The filter in the pump is clean. What am I missing?
It is a BRS mini reactor.
Barry

Does it have to be tilted, i.e. the output hole is actually a bit under the lid of the reactor, so an air bubble stays? Have you tried tilting it around while it's running? Sorry I can't be more help, I don't have the BRS reactor, just trying to think of common/simple explanations.

Happy Water Change day!

Thanks ReefWreak, I think I found my problem I used 1/3 cup of GRO and it should have been
1/4cup. What a dummy..............................

One year today

One year today

Well my BC29 is one year old today. It sure has been a learning experience for me.
I was into saltwater some twenty years ago. That was when you cycled your
tank with a fish and I guessed at the parameters. If it was not for
Reef Central and all the helpful folks here I would not have made it this far.
Thanks .

That one year shot looks really awesome!

I went back and found your thread because I wanted to let you know that there's a neat article on sun coral propagation and spawning events in home aquariums in this months Coral Magazine. Super cool, and I can't wait until you post pictures/tell stories of how you're finding the little yellow/orange/black balls of new sun polyps floating around.
