Base rock question

Reeferrocks was great. Specified the size, relative shape, and color of the rocks I wanted. Capt. Jer sent me an email pic of the rocks he chose per those requests for me to approve or alter as I saw fit. They were then shipped to me right away. They are in my tank, look great IMO, and already have coralline building up on them after not quite 3 months in the tank.

I bought show rock from hirocks and it took a long time to come in. Very dence but nice shapes.

I bought from hirocks and was very happy with my rock. When adding some rock for the new tank though, I just used holey limestone from a landscaping place (cleaned well), and it looked pretty much the same. And, at 12 cents a pound, you can't beat it.

did you seed the coralline with some live stuff, or just scraped some from a previous tank

seed the rock with a piece of live rock or live sand either way it will take a while but will be live in a little while

anyone try CaribSea reef bones

I have 90lbs of Hirocks. I like it however it did take a very long time to get it. I place most of it on the bottom and put my 75 lbs of LR on top of it. Plus I already had LS. I bought the Hirocks off of e-bay and won it around $15.oo cheaper than their site offers it. I would like to try reeferrock as well, it looks better in the pics than the Hirocks. Oh and I've used the purple up until I was out, Now I have been dripping pickleing lime. I've noticed a diifrents in the color of all my LR's.

i paid for 60lbs of the plain large stuff from hirocks last monday.
here it is 8 days later and i can't even get confirmation of shipping out of the guy...
so i can't say i would recommend it quite yet.

yea it took over 16 days for mine to arrvive on both orders. But he did reply once and said it was on it's way. Can you take pics of the plain and post them? I got the "best pieces" and would like to see your's to compare. I have pics of mine in my gallary if you want to see it. I'ts the white rock in the tank.

i will totally do that.
i'm going to need at least another 60.
i decided to get the plain first and see how plain it really was before ordering more.

This is a pic of the actual rock I got from reeferrocks. They sent me this picture in an email for me to confirm that I wanted these specific rocks or he would replace any that I didn't like and send me another confirmation email.

My situation is similar to this, but I did not use rock from "HiRock" or "ReeferRock". I got 160 lbs of Fiji and Tongo rock that was taken out of an aquarium 2 years ago and left to die.

I soaked all the rock in a 55 gallon container for several days and then scrubbed it all. It was almost pure white. I took a 100 gallon stock tank that was never used for an aquarium. Added 80 lbs of live sand, the 160 lbs of "dead" rock, 30 lbs of fresh LR from an aquarium and let nature take its course. I have a protein Skimmer and lights on a timer over the stock tank.

The system has been running for 4 weeks now.

The pictures below show the color already covering the sides of the stock tank and the "dead" rock.

The Green Star Polyps was given to me by Fade32 and I glued it to one of the Tonga branchs when it was still white.

I am surprised by the amount of color in such a short period of time.

The rock on the right is from the active aquarium. The rocks in the middle were pure white a few weeks ago.

In this picture, you can see 3 of the rocks I used to seed, the one in the middle was one of the "dead" rocks

Here's a link to the thread from when I got it, with the above pic and a pic I took of a few pieces when I got them at home. You even responded on this thread, stupidsreef. :)

So do you have any pics of it in your tank?? I said it once and I'll say it again, His rock looks just like what his pic does on his site! That's sweet dude:D My order's from Hirocks didn't look "just" like the pics, some of the rock was close to the pics, but not like yours from reefrocks.

Congrats Hobbs, I told you that day at Chads house that you didn't want that rock, you should have just given it to me. I mean look at it, it's gotten all purple and stuff and full of color which you really didn't want. But since I'm such a  dude, even though it's all purple and colored up now I will STILL be happy to take that "junk" rock off your hands.

Looking really good Hobbs, you did a good job!

Here's a fairly recent pic from my tank. All the lower (base) rocks are the reeferrocks. Look at the area above the large feather dusters and below the pink birdsnest frag, that's a reeferrock that was white like the earlier pics before, but in this pic at about 2 months or so in the tank, it has good coralline growing on it.

Shooter, I don't see a diffrents than the day you got that rock. I think it's junk rock! You should just give it to me (for free that is as I would be doing you a favor and taking it off your hands) and try getting some new rock:D I would be more than happy to give you this rock that my Dad has got out at his house, he gets this rock from off the side of HWY 44 & 55, I'm sure it would be better than what you have ;)
