Base Rock

I should know this, but I don't. If I add two pieces of dry base rock to my tank with 100lbs of LR, would this be enough to cause an ammonia spike? Just wondering. How do you introduce the new rock? Thanks.

Clean it first and put it in

Base rock shouldn't have anything in it to cause a spike. Give it time it will become live.
