I am fine with following my gone fishin mentor vs DK mentor in regards to Chaeto

But curiosity does it just decompose?

I need to work towards that oligotrophic environment lol

If it isn't getting enough light or nutrients it will start to decompose. A lack of iron will also cause it to decline.

I want to believe I beat my nutrient problem

I run it 12 hours with jbj nano hob light- unsure on iron


I don't really care other then don't want it crashing tank. I thought it would help me with nitrate but I think maybe time and bigger water changes did trick

If you got your nitrates and phosphates down low a lack of nutrients is most likely the problem. A golf ball sized chunk will not cause your tank to crash as it breaks down.

My algae in main tank is subsiding as well so I think it is a good thing
