Basement sump return pump

I have a 93g marineland cube. I'm going to move my sump to the basement and I will be upgrading the return pump. I'm trying to keep it under $200 for the pump. I have my eye on the danner mag 18 (1800 gph) it will be about 10 ft from the pump to the return on the tank, there will be 2 elbows on the way up, along with the elbow right before the return outlet, so 3 total. Would this cut it or do any of you have any other recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Mags a bit clunky for my tastes, and my old 24 was noisy as ...... but it certainly would handle your needs

You don't say internal or external, but I gather internal. Internal pumps, I've had good experiences with Siccce; external Iwaki or PanWorld.

i had used both the Mag Drive 1800 and Pan World 100px pump when I had my sump in the basement and my display (93g cube) in the upper floor (16-17 feet). Both pump worked great for me. hope that helps

OK awesome. I think I'll give mag 18 a try then. I've had a mag 5 for years and the noise won't bother me since it's in the basement ( I hope). Thanks!

Brandon, a submersible water pump will generate more heat into the water than an externally plumbed pump. If that's not much of a concern, enjoy!

Yeah I've seen that but i think I should be ok with my setup. Also, can the pond master danner run saltwater. I've seen yes and no. Some people say the diff between the mag and pondmaster is the cord, mag is 7ft or so, pondmaster is 18ft. The pondmaster is 40 bucks cheaper with the longer cord but I can't confirm if it will run saltwater.

They are the same pump .I think the old box used to say mag drive . new box says pond master..And yes some have a longer cord..... My MAG 24 That is less then a year old says Pondmaster on the pump and has a long cord.. I can tell you its a SUPER NOISY PUMP. Mine is on my mixing / water change system

OK so as far as the noise goes, it will be in the basement and I'll have the 18 model. I've had the 5 model in our living room for years in a stand with one side completely open. My 5 is noisy but we are so used to it. Will the 18 be that much more loud? Plus it will be in the basement, which is unfinished and right below us so we can hear if someone like yells down there but I don't know if we will hear the pump?

i have not used a mag 18 but i have had a mag 12 and currently a mag 9.5.. The 9.5 not so bad. the 12 you could hear it run in basemen the 24 you can here over even water running in the kitchen with the pump in the basement..
I Contacted Danner about it and had them listen to it over the phone after them sending me new housing and impeller assembly . They said OHH That is how they sound...

i suspect the 18 will be quite less.. ohh the mag 24 uses about 250W of power if i remember right.. all most as much as my Reeflo hammerhead now setting on a shelf in basement...

Well dang. I looked at the sicce syncra 5.0 but it's only 1300 gph. Would that cut it with 10 ft head, prolly 14ft of pvc with 3 or 4 elbows?

For what its worth this is what i have been using for about a month now. This is there NEWEST Model that is said to better then previous. it has a brand new controller that does not get hot the pump runs cool and quiet and i am running it at 70% and it says its drawing 45 w of power. (not tested to confirm) . I am running it from basement straight up 12 feet then over 6 feet it . its also running manifold in basement for carbon and sump circulation outputs..

i have the dcp-8000..... Some have had the older version running for a few years some only weeks or months....... but at the price it might be worth trying...

Do not buy this form ebay . those are not correct for us current.... Fish street says that is the reason for failures..

anyway its just another option....

That is the return pump I use for my 92 corner. My sump is about 55 ft away from my DT in the garage. My plumbing runs under the floor and into the garage. There are 3 elbows in the line and a height of around 8 ft and it works great for me.

internal pump is much quieter than external pump. I dont think you need to worry about heat, it's never noticeable.
why you worry about the noise when it's in the basement. Besides, I dont think mag 18 is that noisy.

Well since you mentioned jebao I've been looking. Looks like this would work for me? It's quiet a bit cheaper than others I've been looking at.

I replied to you on the other thread.. You should get at least the dcp-8000 maybe the 1000 and dial it back...

I have the 8000 running at 70 %

OK I just replied back to that lol. I said 6 but if you say 8 I'll look into that for sure.

yes i posted both links the one on fish street and amazon (when i got mine a month ago they were not on amazon)only the non sin wave version..

i think you are pushing the water further then i am and im running my 8000 at 70% thru 1 1/2 pipe ... its why i suggest you go up to next size and just run it at say 40% .. with amazon if its too much pump you can exchange it easily.. Better to have too much (future proof) then not enough ..

sorry for cross thread conversations.... makes it more confusing :headwalls:

Haha it's all good. Yeah I looked last night and basically this is what it will be. Looks like roughly 10 ft from pump to return with 3 elbows. And the reason my sump is off set is because there's a garage door right to the right lol. Also I have a jebao wp40 powerhead I got last night and man that thing moves water in my cube. I have it turned all the way down and it's still almost too much.
