Battery back up for wp10?

Plug the AC/DC adapter into a an UPS, like you would use on a PC. The bigger the UPS, the longer the run-time you'll get.

CoralBox released a Jebao Power Cell battery backup that works with most of their products. Check fish-street.

i was thinking about that, but do you have any idea, how long would it runs one wp10 in a 1000 ups?

oh i was thinking about that as well, but i read that it sucks, or it does't kick on automatic after the electricity goes out, do you have any input on how good is it? thanks

I think usually UPS's are rated in watts or killawatts per hour. How would you determine how long the pump would run off one before it dies? Does someone know the math for it?

Tripp Lite has a calculator on every web page for a UPS. According to their calculators, a standard desktop UPS will last up to 3 hours at 40 watts. UPS systems are not meant to last very long, they are meant to last just long enough to either shut the computer down or get a standby generator running.

I don't have any hands on experience. I would think the Jaebo power cell would be better based on what I read. A LFS has it in stock and I was thinking of picking one up to try it out on a WP25. But I haven't made up my mind as yet.

Regarding computer UPS, they won't provide more than a few hours backup. Some will only give you a few minutes, especially if you will run powerheads on them. A $125 TripLite UPS will run for 2:28hr at a 20watt load. The WP10 runs between 6-15 Watt. According to the powercell specs it will run a WP10 for 48 hours on the lowest mode.

That's great so in this case I will return this ups and get the powercell and just see how it does, thanks

How often do you have power outages? I know in southern California we get updates of roving blackouts and when they are to occur. That being said, I just have a back up generator that I can start up and run an extension cable to for the vitals. Unless you plan on being on vacation or away for an extended period of time, I think the battery back ups are useless.

the only problem i have here in southwest florida is that maybe once a week with the lighting and so much raining the electricty might go off for a couple oh hours and i work 12 hours shift mon-fr so i don't want anything to catch me by surprise, other than that i dont have any problem

Personally, if it's only for a couple of hours, I wouldn't sweat it. Think of how long your items sat in bags when being shipped and that was with limited water as well.

you do have a point, anyways it was really ship, so sometimes is better to just feel a better more secure about not losing couple thousands in a tank, IMO

If planing on getting the jebao battery, have in mind that it will slow your wave maker down, doesn't matter if u put it on high, it will slow it down dramatically

Very curious about this battery backup.

I have a DCS12000 which is hooked up to my Apex controller -- via the AC plug on an Apex Energy Bar only since you can't control this generation with the Apex controller cable that worked with the previous generation (thus, it is only an on/off control via Apex, and I use the included Jebao controller).

If I use this battery backup, will it take over the power for the return pump in the event of a power outage and also not interfere with Apex on/off control?

My plan is to:
1. Have the DCS12000 power supply connected to an Apex Energy Bar to control on/off
2. Have the battery backup plugged into a house AC outlet -- to charge the battery backup and I presume for it to detect a power failure
3. Have the DCS12000 controller hooked up via the Y cable included with the battery backup - one to the battery and one to the DCS12000's controller

My DCS12000 is programmed to shut off when feeding but obviously I don't want the battery backup to kick in when the Apex is shutting off power to the pump.

My presumption is that it is the battery backup's own connection to the house AC (not ot the Apex) is how it determines there is a power failure, and if so, it then takes over. If this is the case, logically, when there is normal house AC working, the battery should be in standby and not interfere with anything I do with the Apex.

Is this the case?
