Battery back up storage

Hey all,
I just set up my safety connector for my tunze 6055 and I am about to store it away under my aquarium by all my ballasts for my lighting. I maintain my battery charge by hooking it up to a battery tender so that voltage does not drop. When the tender comes on to maintain the battery will the battery produce hydrogen sulfide? If so where should i store my battery? Also how much gas would be produce with such an insignificant amount of charging?

It won't produce hydrogen sulfide but it will produce some hydrogen gas, this is largely eliminated by using a Sealed Lead Acid Battery instead of a car battery. It mainly comes down to choosing a battery that is safe for indoor use, SLA is what is used off the shelf UPS systems and to back up household alarms and power childrens toys (Power Wheels) and are generally the safest choice. In a car battery for a large system Glass Mat is the safest. Keep in mind at 12V a 6055 uses about .75 Amps so a 7.5 amp hour Sealed Lead Acid Gel Cell is about 10 hrs of runtime, there isn't much need for a bigger battery.
